š¾ Mary Joe Wins At Age of 14

What were you doing at age 14? Shoot, I could barely spell tennis.
On this day in 1985, American tennis player Mary Joe Fernandez became the youngest player to win at the US Open, when she defeated Englandās Sara Gomer 6-1, 6-4 in a first round match. Fernandez was only 14 years and 8 days old. Talk about not being afraid of the moment. Fernandez went on to win two Australian Opens, a French Open, and a bronze at the Summer Olympics!

Glue Guy of the Day
šļø Former SportsCenter Greats Back At It

If youāre like me, you grew up watching SportsCenter in the morning before school. If it was a morning that started with y on this famous show from the late 2000s to the early 2020s, you saw two faces: Neil Everett and Stan Verrett.
The SportsCenter duo co-hosted the show from 2009-2023 and became an incredibly popular duo on arguably the most famous sports show of all time. Everett left the network in 2023 after refusing to take a pay cut, and Verrett left earlier this year when ESPN shut down itās LA studio in favor of itās Connecticut home.
The two were hilarious together, always keeping sports light and fun with their quick quips and one-liners. They were an absolute staple in the world of sports entertainment. The show has not had the same tune-in ratings than they did in previous years while the duo hosted, and honestly, it probably wonāt ever feel the same for those of us who grew up around the show with them as hosts.
But do not fear, because these two are back and better than ever to fill the void in my heart that left when they separated in 2023. The duo announced on X on Monday that they would be teaming up once again to host a sports-based show on Twitch. The first episode is set to launch on Tuesday, September 9th, and produce two shows a week.
Casually called the āStan & Neil Showā, the press release promises āa unique blend of sports insight, personal stories, and humor, featuring a rotating lineup of special guests from sports, entertainment, and mediaā. In a world being taken over by casual sports shows like the Pat McAfee Show, New Heights Podcast, and others, the Stan & Neil Show should provide a different perspective from two anchor who have done it professionally for years!
The BIG Moments

ā¾ļø Brandon Nimmo Walk-Off!
The Stump Short Story: Just a bit ago things were getting off the rails for the New York Mets, they are now 7-3 in their last 10 and have won the first two games of their series against the rival Phillies. A few things here, we are reaching that time when the Mets started to turn things up a notch last year, so be on the lookout for that. The other thing worth mentioning is the clinic that Brandon Nimmo put on during the postgame interviews after his walk-off single. Just an absolute pro who gave all of the flowers to his teammates, good stuff BN!
Why it Matters: The Mets have now won 9 straight home games against the Phillies. Thatās more than a pattern! Again, this team turned into the hottest team in baseball late last year, and now with the bats to show some fireworks again, everything is still in front of the Mets, as they are currently the last Wild Card team in and three games ahead of the Reds.

š A Few News Bullets from the League
The Stump Short Story: Yesterday we had the 53-man rosters revealed across the league. Hereās a link to what the final cuts looked like from all 32 teams. In terms of depth charts, a few QB notes for you. The Saints have named Spencer Rattler as their starting QB. I donāt know if this means good things about Year 2 Rattler or just bad things about the 25-year old rookie Tyler Shough. Could be a long year for New Orleans. The Browns also released their QB depth chart and it went Flacco, Gabriel, Sanders, with Pickett off to the Raiders. Final QB blip is that Trey Lance was named the backup for Justin Herbert after Taylor Heinicke was released.
Why it Matters: All this means once again is that we are close. We are so so so so close. 8 days close to be exact! Football is upon us folks!
