š„ Did Someone Say Show Rec?
Yeah, we do it all over here, here's a rec...
Good Morning, Stumpers!

Stump.

On This Day
šļø First FIFA World Cup Final

Oh what a moment it must have been in Uruguay. The FIFA World Cup has a long tradition of being the best international soccer tournament in the world. Through itās ups and downs, itās brought nations together to root on their very best in the sport.
On this day in 1930, the first FIFA World Cup Final took place at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay. The host nation defeated Argentina 4-2 in the inaugural event. Just like today, it was played on a random Wednesday in July, only one of two World Cup finals to be played on a day other than Sunday.
Todayās Trivia
Alright let's see who's been watching the MLB: How many teams in the AL East (Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays, Rays, and Orioles) have AT LEAST 50 wins this season? |
Glue Guy of the Day
ā³ļø Pryce Cahill, AKAā¦Stick

As we welcome in more and more Stumpers each day, I think itās important that we talk about what we do here. Sure, we are a sports newsletter, but we want to try and do it in an outside the box fashion. Some zig, we zag. Weāll always keep you up to date with the big stories in the sports world, but what about the other stories in the sports world? What about those guys?
Today weāre talking Golf. You may be asking yourself what direction weāre going in. Scottie? Rory? Bryson? Old-school Tiger maybe?
Nope. None of that jazz. Letās talk streaming services, and more specifically Apple TV and Pryce Cahill! If youāre not familiar with Pryce, he is a character played by Owen Wilson on Apple TVās hot new show, Stick. Quick little word wall lingo bit for you, if any golfer is referred to as a āstickā, it just means they are really good at golf.
So why am I talking your ear off about a show?
Who isnāt looking for their next watch? If you wanted to throw something on just for a few minutes to see if maybe you found a new watch, try this on Apple TV. Itās about Pryce Cahill, a retired professional golfer who meets a young kid who he thinks has what it takes to go pro. Pryce has an old school mentality, and the kid, Santiago Wheeler, thinks he knows everything there is to know about the game.
This short 10-episode Season 1 goes along their journey as they try and figure out how to work together for the sake of Santiās golf game. Thatās all Iāll give. I donāt want to give too much more away.
I will say this. If you already have Apple TV, then youāre all good to go. If not, they have a one week free trial (here), and thatās plenty of time to at least see if you want to give the show a shot.
Sheesh after typing this now it feels like a paid advertisement. I mean I wish it was to be honest with you, but the fine folks over at Apple TV arenāt sending us a penny. Iām just an enjoyer of all things sports, and this show definitely felt like a share.
The talk of the town in terms of golf entertainment is the mixed reviews of Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix, but thatās exactly why weāre talking Stick today, because all eyes are on something else.
Zig. Zag. You get the deal.
Todayās Glue SHOW of the day: Stick on Apple TV!
The BIG Moments

ā½ļø Vancouver Close to Signing Muller
The Stump Short Story: Welcome to the MLS, Thomas Muller. Well, kind of. Thereās still some details to be ironed out, but weāll get to those later. Thomas Muller, former Bayern Munich and German soccer star, has agreed in principle to sign a deal with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Muller spent the last 17 seasons as the face of Bundesliga giant Bayern, appearing in 756 matches and amassing 250 goals, securing 12 league titles along the way. The legendary forward will bring incredible experience and goal scoring power to Vancouver as they chase an MLS Championship.
Why it Matters: So, about those details needing to be ironed out. Basically, the MLS has this thing called ādiscovery rightsā, which a club can purchase for exclusivity to negotiate deals with players not already in the league. Mullerās are owned by FC Cincinnati, not Vancouver. So, Vancouver needs to buy those rights from Cincy before they can officially bring in Muller. Cincy was told by people close to Muller, and possibly even the man himself, that he was not interested in playing there. Once Vancouver and Cincy can reach a deal on buying out his rights, the deal will become official.
𤣠Traded Down the Hall
The Stump Short Story: Nothing I love more than a trade between two teams that are currently playing each other. Thatās right, in the middle of their series, the Blue Jays and Orioles made a trade yesterday. The Jays acquired right-handed pitcher Seranthony Dominguez from the Oās for a pitching prospect. So Dominguez packed up his back, and took the long trip down the hall, to the other locker room. Not only that, but the Jays actually put him on the mound against him former team that same day! Dominguez threw a scoreless 7th inning, striking out two of his old teammates.
Why it Matters: Not only is it funny, but itās actually pretty neat. An easy way for Dominguez to meet his new team, and get the anxiety of facing his old team out of the way early. Funny enough, the Orioles prospect who got traded in return for Dominguez was in Double-A with the Orioles organization, that team just-so-happened to be playing the Double-A affiliate of the Jays! So all that guy had to was walk down a hallway and put on a different jersey, too. We love baseball.
ā³ļø Previewing the Wyndham
The Stump Short Story: Itās another off-week for some of the worlds best golfers as the Wyndham Championshipsā lower-level purse does not attract the top guys. But despite this, it should still be a really exciting weekend of golf. Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, NC, offers up an awesome landscape and sets the stage for some really fun golf with a par of 70. Last years winner, Aaron Rai, is set to defend his title, starting the week paired with Tom Kim, Austin Eckroat, and Adam Svensson.
Why it Matters: These are the weekends where the guys who cut their teeth on the lower level events make a name for themselves. And heck, some even win some good money to push their career along. It may seem like Iām not as interested in this tournament, but thatās far from the truth. If youāre wondering about which guys will compete in the winners circles for years to come, watch these tournaments. This is where the grit and determination really shows. Remember, there was a time where Scottie was playing in these tournaments week-in and week-out.
