STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍️

Justin Rose: Still Swinging It

Despite his loss, Justin Rose proved he could still play high level golf, at the place where it all started…

Heading into the final day, Englishmen Justin Rose was 2-back from the lead in what could be an unreal exclamation point on what has already been an exceptional career. Rose is 43 years old and has 11-career PGA Tour wins, his last being the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Rose has won one major, the 2013 US Open.

Rose turned professional nearly a quarter-century ago, and has struggled as of late. He jumped onto the main scene in 1998 at the British Open as an amateur. He finished tied for fourth in that tournament, he was 17 at the time. After and opening round of +2, Rose shot the record-low round for an amateur at the tournament with a 66, Frank Stranahan and Tiger Woods also shot that low. He was tied for second halfway through the tournament.

Some 26 years later, Rose was sitting in a familiar spot. He was tied for second in the British Open. A career that had some major highs in the 2010’s has turned into some major struggles as of late. This weekend, Rose seemed to turn back the clock.

In poor weather, the veteran played smart shot after smart shot to get his way back into contention. On Saturday, the Rose and Horschel pairing was brilliant to watch. In the rain and through the mist, the old Englishman felt right at home.

Sure, he came up short. That happens. Xander played out of his mind on Sunday to win. But don’t you dare say that Justin Rose didn’t fight. He finished two back at -7. That was a score that looked good enough to win all week. In what had to be a full circle moment for Justin Rose, he truly showed that he can still play some very high level golf.

Rose recently admitted a really hard truth: the older he gets, the fewer opportunities he’ll have to win. Rose travels with his very own recovery trailer filled with whatever physical aid he needs to keep up with the younger generation of golfers.

Rose was quoted following his loss last night and watching Xander hoist the trophy, “At that point, you’re being professional. Then I walk 10 steps later, and I’m choking back tears. So that’s the shift.”

From all of us in the golfing world, thank you for inspiring us again. If it were up to me, you’d get yourself a win this summer.

NBA Summer League

In the heat of the summer, in what many call the dry season for sports, the NBA Summer League provides JUST enough entertainment to bridge the gap between the end of hockey and basketball to get us to football and playoff baseball. Glue.
