šŸŽ™ļøThere's a New Pod...

You like Rowing? We LOVE rowing!

Good Morning, Stumpers!

Ladies and gentleman, there’s a new pod drop. You thought we were just talking about rowing for the heck of it? I mean, we should, but we have a REASON. We got an absolute STUD on our most recent podcast, Flo Therrien, UConn’s star sophomore rower, jumped on the pod to talk everything about one of the toughest sports that isn’t talked about enough! LET’S GET STUMPIN!

On This Day

āš¾ļø President Reagan Collabs with MLB

If nothing, we’re consistent. Let’s go back to back with presidents and sports collaborating for an on this day in sports history.

On this day in 1989, President Ronald Reagan joined legendary sportscaster Vin Scully in the booth to announce the first inning of the MLB All-Star game. It was a legendary move by Reagan, but the players stole the show. Bo Jackson and Wade Boggs went for back-to-back home runs to start the game with the President on the call, an MLB All-Star game first in 14 years. It is TRULY worth the listen.

Glue Guy of the Day

🚣 Rowing: But Make it Personal

Glue Guy of the Day: FLO!

We had the absolute honor to interview a UConn Rower, Florence Therrien. To be honest, going into the interview, out background on the sport was minimal at best. We did our due diligence, we researched the sport, a little background on Flo, and the whole thing, but never could we have imagined how much we learned.

A rising sophomore from Montreal, Flo has spent the majority of her life moving around North America. This included her time in high school at Brentwood Private School in Mill Bay, British Columbia. The complete opposite side of Canada. Now, a freshman at UConn, Flo is fully embracing the experience of being a student-athlete.

Not only did she give us unreal insight into her early mornings on the lake in Coventry, CT, she gave us a background on her unconventional path into the world of rowing. She walked us through the ins and outs, and basics, and the not-so-basics. To the point where we left the interview feeling like we could sit down into a boat and row it across a continent (or maybe a small pond).

Either way, student-athletes like Flo in sports that aren’t necessarily revenue driving feel often left behind, but I could not be more impressed with the way that an 18-year-old student-athlete at UConn composed herself in our interview.

If you want to learn anything about rowing, or even bring some faith back to yourself about the youth of America, I challenge you to listen to Flo for just a few minutes. She surely is the best of what collegiate student-athletes have to offer.

A UConn rower with a future brighter than the Sun? GLUE. GAL.

The BIG Moments

šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ Checking in on Great Britain

The Stump Short Story: Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about all the action going on across the pond from us. In the Wimbledon women’s singles, American Amanda Anisimova upset the number one seed Aryna Sabalenka in a three set thriller, while Iga Swiatek took care of business to set up absolute must-see TV in the women’s final on Saturday. The semifinals for the men take place this morning. On the other side of sports in Scotland, the Genesis Scottish Open got going early yesterday morning. In fact, by the time you’re reading this, there’s a LOT of golfers already on the course. When writing this, we ended day one with 4 guys tied for the lead at -6, with a whole host of players (67) at under-par or better. The big story is, of course, Scottie Scheffler, who sits just three back of the leader. Today will surely settle the field a little as we head into the weekend.

Why it Matters: Why? WHY? Because we can’t go a week right now without some high leverage golf or tennis. It’s a beautiful thing. Honestly, this UK thing is getting me fired up. If I was a citizen of the UK, it’d be juiced that the whole world is watching their competitions. It means something. It truly does. Let’s all wake up early this weekend and tune in to some golf from Scotland.

šŸ€ Old Jordan House on AirBNB?

The Stump Short Story: I don’t know, if I had the money, I might rent it. An old property of Michael Jordan in Highland Park, Illinois, is currently being listed on Airbnb after being sold for $9.5M in December of 2024. The two story estate, originally built in 1995, has seven bedrooms and 17 ½ bathrooms for you to choose from. It also includes a basketball court, putting green, tennis court, cigar room, and infinity pool. So basically, everything you could ever want as a middle aged man. The booking requires a minimum of seven nights, and limited to 12 guests, while also paying a $25,000 deposit fee. Woof.

Why it Matters: Well, it does have Jordan’s #23 on the gate, that’s pretty cool. If money really isn’t an object to you, this seems like a great spot just outside of Chicago. The house was originally built for Jordan, so it’s not like anyone else designed it. It’s his house, well, it used to be his house. If you’re a basketball fanatic and you have money to spend, this may be a cool trip.

šŸ€ Okay, Let’s Talk Cooper Flagg

The Stump Short Story: I know, how original. But honestly, I don’t care about what actually happened in the game. I care about the price tag of a ticket here. Did anyone else see those numbers? Bronny James and Cooper Flagg took each other on last night in the Summer League, and the entry price was CRAZY. The average ticket cost more than $200, and to get courtside? Get ready to shell out over $3000. That’s absolute insanity for a Summer League game. INSANITY! I’ve never seen anything like it. In the end, Bronny missed a game winning three after an up-and-down performance from both him and Cooper Flagg. Either way, spending that much money on a summer league game blows my mind.

Why it Matters: We’re talking big bucks just to get a peek at Bronny James vs Cooper Flagg. That’s the reality of the world we live in, these kinds of things get hyped up and then blow it out of proportion. I can’t imagine spending $3000 on a game that literally does not matter in the slightest. I guess that’s just the new reality. Get ready, cause that’s how we’re rolling from now on.
