Happy Friday everybody! Big weekend ahead and a lot to cover from yesterday. It was a bit of a snoozer on MNF but the Jets got a big win over the Texans and maybe have started to get the ball rolling! We also had major news out of Indy, a D Book clinic, and a possible play of the year! Let’s do this thing!

On This Day…

🏒 On this date in 1924, the Boston Bruins became the first non-Canadian team to enter the NHL. On the same day, the Montreal Maroons would also join the league, but last only until 1938.

The Bruins are one of the original six NHL teams that still exist today, which includes the Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Montreal Maple Leafs.

Today’s Stump Story…

🏈 Flacco At The Helm! What’s Happening in INDY?

Well, there’s been a bunch that’s been going on in Indy these last few days when it comes to the Quarterback position. Let’s dissect it…

In case you missed it on Sunday, after running for 10 seconds in the backfield and ending up with a short gain, Colts QB Anthony Richardson tapped his helmet and looked at the sideline. As a viewer, we didn’t fully know what was going on, but he came out for a third down and Flacco came in for a snap. The game ended in an eventual Indy loss, and at the postgame presser, Anthony Richardson said that he had to come out to catch his breath.

After hearing this, the media has absolutely gone off on AR for saying this, saying you can’t say that as the franchise QB. Two days later, AR has been benched in favor of Joe Flacco.

All of the AR doubters are coming out of the woodwork to share how ‘from his college tape, you could tell his game wouldn’t translate.’

Was it the smartest thing in the world to come out and say that he was tired? No, it wasn’t. But is it worthy of being a moment that seems like it could stay with him for months? I don’t know if it is. The kid made a mistake. He’s 22 years old and he went to the podium and was just being honest with reporters.

Rarely do we root against anybody here at the Stump, so here’s to AR now learning behind a savvy vet and coming back stronger than ever!

Now about that savvy vet! Are you kidding me? Are you telling me that FLACCO IS BACK?!?!? My god, there’s something about that guy slinging the rock that just makes Sundays more exciting. After taking the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs last year, Joe Flacco has a chance to be special again and take an Indy team that has playoff-caliber talent all the way.

It all starts this Sunday night on Primetime against the Minnesota Vikings. You win that game Joe, and you set the world on fire.

Yesterday, In a Nutshell

🏈 Thursday Night Football: This game couldn’t have had an UGLIER first half. Almost found myself falling asleep on the couch! In the end…THE JETS MAY BE BACK! Half kidding there. The Jets defeated the Texans, 21-13, behind 3 passing TDs from Aaron Rodgers (2 to Garrett Wilson and 1 to Davante Adams). The Jets now move to 3-6 and only have one team above .500 remaining on their schedule. Garrett Wilson also had the CATCH OF THE YEAR! (click below)

🏒 The NHL has always been huge in Europe, but today, the NHL calls Europe home. The Stars and Panthers, two of the top teams in the league, will take the ice in Tampere, Finland at the Nokia Arena as the NHL kicks off their Global Series. In Finland, hockey is practically a religion, and there will be 7 native Finnish players on the ice today between the two squads. Aleksander Barkov, Panthers captain and the first Finn to ever captain a Cup-winner, is one of the Finnish players that will take the ice in his hometown once again.

Manchester United is set to hire Ruben Amorim to succeed Erik Ten Hag, who was relieved of his duties this past Monday. United officially triggered the former Braga coach’s 10 million euro release clause at Sporting CP and will also hire many of his supporting staff away from Sporting CP. Amorim’s contract stipulates he must give his former club a 30-day window before he can move on to another team, so United will have to wait until mid-late November for him to take over.

A phenomenal tune that just really sets the mood for a good day. A classic from the early 2010’s that just hits different with nostalgia.

I don’t really know what these guys do, I feel like bubble wrap may be more effective, but just something about the packing peanut hits different. GLUE!
