Today’s Trivia🧠
Which of the following teams has NEVER appeared in the Super Bowl?
(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)
On This Day…

⚾In 1945, Billy “Goat” Sianis buys a seat for his goat for Game 4 of the World Series at Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs. He and the goat were promptly escorted out of the stadium, while on his way out of the stadium, Sianis put a curse on the Cubs.
‘The Billy Goat Curse’, stood tall in Chicago for 71 years, as the Cubs didn’t win a World Series from 1945 to 2016.

🏀NBA Preview: Washington Wizards

Today we’re heading to the US Capital for our NBA Preview, let’s take a look at the Washington Wizards.
The Wizards are coming off of a franchise-worst 67-loss season in 2023-24 that was left with very few signs of optimism. Their one big sign of optimism was in former first-round draft pick Deni Avdija, who took great strides last year. Avdija was rewarded with a new team, as he was traded to the Trail Blazers for PG Malcolm Brogdon.
The Wizards did a bulk of their offseason work on Draft Day, which included 3 first-round picks. The Wizards took Alex Sarr with the second overall pick, Bub Carrington with the 14th pick, and Kyshawn George with the 26th overall pick. All will probably have significant roles after the struggles of last years roster.
When it comes to veteran players, the Wizards have some big names, specifically Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma. Poole was extremely poor last year, not only did he shoot a career low, he also became known for his head-scratching decisions with the ball in his hand. Kuzma showed he could put up some unreal numbers when given the ball, but the lack of help from the rest of the team really inflated his stats.
I’d guess another “building” year in DC.
🏈 NFL Games to Watch

A lack of big-time matchups this week leaves us looking for some entertainment in places we don’t normally look, so let’s break it down.
Is Jayden Daniels THAT dude? Daniels has been turning heads all over the NFL the last few weeks and has shown that he was the right selection for the Commanders at No. 2 overall. This week, he’s going against a pretty elite, albeit injured, Cleveland Browns defense. Daniels has the chance to prove that he is really the face of the franchise for years to come if he continues to dominate.
Where do we stand in Houston? Houston had really high expectations entering the season, probably the highest they’ve had in years. The offense has looked like a shell of itself early on this year, barely defeating the Jags, Bears, and Colts. Despite the 3-1 record, they were dismantled by the Vikings in their first true test of the year. Today, they play one of the best in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills. A true statement game for both teams, but being at home, it feels like Houston needs this one badly.
SNF: Two Teams Who Are Desperate to Prove It: Sunday Night Football brings us two teams who have been heavily questioned early this year. One being the Cowboys, and the other being the Steelers. The Cowboys have been really hot and cold all year, and just like everyone does every year, people are unsure of who the Cowboys are. The Steelers are great on defense, but the question lies in how good can they be on offense with Justin Fields. A good opportunity for both teams to make a statement on national TV.
🏈 STUMPSET SATURDAY!

For a week of College Football that a lot of people said was not going to be fun, my god were they wrong. We had Stumpsets on top of Stumpsets yesterday! Here’s the RUNDOWN!
Yesterday was one of the biggest days for STUMPSETS EVER! Here’s a RECAP…
(25) Texas A&M def. (9) Missouri, 41-10! Something is happening in College Station! After a week 1 loss to Notre Dame, the Aggies have been on a roll! They came out hot to start and kept their foot on the gas all game long. Le’Veon Moss ran for 140 yards and 3 TDs! Big move for the Aggies coming up in the next poll!
Washington def. (10) Michigan, 27-17! Don’t tell Washington Husky fans that this wasn’t an anticipated rematch! The boys were buzzing for this one. Although the two teams couldn’t be more different from where they were just 10 months ago when they met for the National Title, they fought hard in a rematch that went the way of Washington! This is Michigan’s second loss! Will they make the Playoff? Who knows!
Minnesota def. (11) USC, 24-17! We here at the Stump are big fans of USC QB Miller Moss and the grit he’s had to stay at USC. Yesterday, however, was not a day to remember for Trojans fans. A low-scoring affair for their standard was 17-10 going into the fourth. USC stalled and Minnesota QB Max Brosmer was able to run it himself twice to secure the STUMPSET for the Golden Gophers.
Arkansas def. (4) Tennessee, 19-14! Talk about a GRITFEST! The VOLS ran into a brick wall in the form of the Arkansas Razorbacks! QB Nico Iamaleava struggled all day to get anything going, finishing with 158 yards and 0 TDs. The score was 3-0 going into halftime and a Malachi Singleton TD with 1 minute left in the game was able to give the Razorbacks the win!
Interesting thing about all of these STUMPSETS including the one we haven’t even mentioned yet….
They were all on the road! Major shake up coming to this upcoming AP Poll1
🏈 VANDY!!!! DOWN GOES BAMA!!!

One week after winning the Game of the Year against SEC rival Georgia, Alabama loses on the road to a recent SEC pushover in Vanderbilt! Pushover no more! The Commodores are HERE!
Unbelievable stuff out of the Vanderbilt Commodores! To beat Alabama you have to play a perfect game, and they did just that!
We’ll get to QB Diego Pavia in a second, but the offense overall was amazing. They held the ball for 42:08 of the game clock! Jalen Milroe was on the bench for long stretches of the game, and despite scoring 35 points, the Alabama offense was not their usual self.
If you tuned in to Vandy’s Week 1 2OT win over Virginia Tech, you saw flashes of Diego Pavia being an absolute dude! Those flashes turned into absolute fireworks yesterday! His stats don’t jump off the page (16/20, 252 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT), but he made right play after right play. He didn’t put the ball in harm’s way, and when it got to third down, the Commodores were able to convert 12 out of 18 times.
The defense did what they needed to at the end of the game, and the student section did what they needed to as well rushing the field! Absolute SHOCKWAVES for college football!
One week after beating Georgia, the Alabama Crimson Tide fall on the road to Vanderbilt.
College Football. There’s nothing like it!
⚾ Divisional Round Day 1 RECAP!

Postseason Baseball is phenomenal! Here’s what happened…
Guardians def. Tigers, 7-0. The feel good Tigers ran into a brick wall in the form of the Cleveland Guardians. Their divisional rivals smacked them around in Game 1. 5 runs came in the first against Tyler Holton who failed to record an out in the showing. The Tigers couldn’t recover! Cleveland leads, 1-0!
MET MAGIC CONTINUES! Mets def. Phillies, 6-2! This is getting insane! After a flawless showing by Zach Wheeler of the Phillies, the Mets exploded against the bullpen for a 5-run 8th inning! The Phillies looked like they were in for a shutout, but the boys from Queens did it again! Everybody got involved in the 8th to take Game 1!
Yankees def. Royals, 6-5! A win is a win! That was a weird Game 1. You felt like you were just waiting for the other shoe to fall off for the Yankees. They are in a different situation than a lot of these teams, for them it is Championship or bust! Alex Verdugo hit a big 2-run bomb early, and then a bunch of walks down the stretch helped them get the close win!
SHOWTIME SHOWTIME SHOWTIME! Dodgers def. Padres, 7-5! If you thought that the moment would be too big for Shohei Ohtani, I’m not quite sure what to tell you. He hit a 3-run BOMB in the bottom of the second that was a no-doubter! The game went back and forth, but with a big play from Teoscar Hernandez, the Dodgers were able to win Game 1!
Yesterday, but the Good Stuff❗❗

E. All of the Above! These 4 poor fanbases have never seen their squad in the Super Bowl, they are going through it! Hopefully the Lions or Texas can get their soon, they have the squads to do it!
