Trouble In Tallahassee

US Open Quarterfinals, A Boston College Clinic, 2 Days Away From Football, and Who is Chris Flexen?

Would like to thank Florida State football for allowing us to use the word STUMPSET two weeks in a row! A Boston College CLINIC last night! Outside of that, we’ve got Quarterfinals matches in the US Open, a lot of MLB and WNBA action, and we’re two days away from NFL Football. Saying we’re JUICED would be an understatement! Or should we say understumpment? No never mind that didn’t work. Understatement.

Stump Story of the Day

What the heck is going on with Ja’Marr Chase?

We got a situation in Cincy. The Cincinnati Bengals are in full swing of preparing for their week one match up this Sunday against the Patriots. Unfortunately for them, their doing it without their star player.

Ja’Marr Chase remains day-to-day as he continue to not practice as he awaits the status of a contract extension. He’s looking for an extension along the lines of his former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson, who just so happened to reset the market this offseason when he signed a record-breaking four-year, $140 million contract.

It’s extra worrisome for Bengals fans because it doesn’t seem like Chase has any interest in suiting up any time soon. His involvement at practice has been limited to standing around and doing the occasional shagging for his coaches.

Now, I’m not some old man on his front porch screaming “get off my lawn”, but I am getting a little sick and tired of this whole sitting out until I get paid thing. I get why players do it, they don’t want to get hurt playing under the shadow of a limited contract, but c’mon. Can’t we handle this in the offseason. Also, it’s not like we’re fighting over the last piece of pizza, we’re talking about the difference between probably $135 million and $140 million. Old man on his porch time over.

I hope the Bengals and Chase come to an agreement soon, he’s an elite player that I love to watch, all of us feel this way.

Today’s Trivia🧠

🏀 We are just a few games away from the end of the WNBA regular season. Who won the inaugural championship in 1997?

  • A. New York Liberty

  • B. Detroit Shock

  • C. Seattle Storm

  • D. Houston Comets

  • E. It ended in a draw

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

In 1999, Pittsburgh Penguins great Mario Lemieux’s ownership group officially took over the Penguins! He was the first player in the modern sports era to buy the team he once played for.

Who’s the next athlete you could see doing this? Bron with the Lakers or Cavs? Steph with the Warriors? Thanasis with the Bucks?

You HAVE to see this…

Nothing like a Nick Castellanos interview🤣 WhTalking Points

🏈Florida State: Panic Button Time

After entering the year ranked #10 in the country and getting one of the top transfer portal QBs in DJ Uiagalelei, the Florida State hype train was real. The team brought back multiple starters on both sides of the ball and filled in the remaining spots either through the portal or with guys already on roster.

Since the season started, however, the Seminoles have fell flat on their face. After losing a nail-bitter in Dublin to Georgia Tech with the whole world watching, you would think the boys would come FIRED up to face off against BC at home and redeem themselves.

You thought wrong. FSU came out and got pounded. The offense looked flat, the defense couldn’t tackle, BC was running through their face. It was ugly.

It’s officially time to hit the panic button in Tallahassee. It feels like entering week 3 this season is a failed one. Their chances of reaching the 12-team CFP are basically zero, and the Seminoles have to win out to even get a chance in the ACC Championship game.

I’m officially calling it a long season.

⚾️Hard Knock Life: Chris Flexen

Sometimes being on a bad team is hard. In this case for White Sox starting pitcher Chris Flexen, it’s worst that hard. It’s almost unbearable.

That’s because when the Orioles routed the White Sox, and especially Chris Flexen, the White Sox broke a record. The White Sox have lost 20 straight games in which Chris Flexen has started. 20! That’s the most in baseball’s modern-era (since 1900) for most consecutive loses in a pitcher’s starts.

Poor Chris, the guy currently has a record of 2-14 on the year. And it’s not like the guy goes out there and gets shelled every game, he throws some solid starts. He just gets no run support. In the last 4 games he started the White Sox have scored a combined 5 runs. Brutal!

The White Sox have truly given up. There is no hope in the southside of Chicago.

🏈 Fantasy Football! HOW and WHY!

You want a talking point? Here’s a talking point that will last you MONTHS! With the NFL season here along with it comes Fantasy Football. I remember the first time I joined a fantasy football league. I was a little freaked out. “I can’t keep track of 300 players?!?!”

Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. Fantasy completely changes how you watch and talk about football. If you have never joined a league. Just try it, you pick players you think will do well (or just like) and then you root for them all season long. It’s really that simple! Here’s a link to the NFL’s Fantasy Football platform. Just a couple clicks and you’re in!

Trivia Answer:

D. Houston Comets! The Comets may not be a team today, but I’d go as far as calling them a dynasty in the late 1990s. They won the first four WNBA Championships and Cynthia Cooper was the Finals MVP all four times! in ‘97 it was just a 1 game championship which they took over the New York Liberty.
