On This Day…

🄊 Rocky Hangs Up the Gloves

No, I’m not talking the movie legend Rocky played by Sylvester Stallone, I’m talking the REAL Rocky, Rocky Marciano.

On this day in 1956, undefeated world heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano retires from the ring. He held the world heavyweight championship from 1952 to 1956, and remains the only heavyweight champion to finish his career undefeated. In case you were wondering, the movie Rocky is NOT based on his career, but instead a different boxer!

Draft Day Part 3

šŸ¤‘ Sanders Slide Ends ; Run on QBs

The Wait is Over, Sanders is Headed to Cleveland: I will preface this in saying that I am a Browns fan. Not am I just a Browns fan, I’m a Browns fan that DID NOT want Sanders at No. 2 overall. That being said, I absolutely want Sanders at pick 144. That is generational value. There’s no question that Sanders has the make up to be a NFL QB, whether you think he will be a Hall of Famer or a bust, you can’t sit there and say that he shouldn’t be drafted or that his college success doesn’t validate the fact that he is worthy of a shot in the NFL. Somehow, Sanders fell all the way to the 5th round, and that’s finally when Cleveland pulled the trigger. It was 142 picks after where many people thought the Browns may take him, but either way, he’s a Brown. Now, where he was drafted does not matter. Sanders certainly must feel some sort of massive chip on his shoulder, and a hungry dog runs faster. It’ll be fascinating to watch how all of this will play out in Cleveland.

Run on QBs in Day Three: It’s the time of the draft where teams start taking flyers on some talented college football QBs. They fall to the late rounds due to a myriad of reasons as to why NFL scouts may think they will be limited when playing in the league. It could be arm strength, it could size, it could be accuracy, it could be lack of experience, or whatever may hold up a player. Here are the names who got called as the draft got into the late rounds: Kyle McCord (Syracuse → Eagles), Will Howard (Ohio State → Steelers), Riley Leonard (Notre Dame → Colts), Graham Mertz (Florida → Texans), Cam Miller (North Dakota St → Raiders), Kurtis Rourke (Indiana → 49ers), Quinn Ewers (Texas → Dolphins). You never know with this kind of stuff, all of these guys were talented players who just fell in the draft, every couple years one of these guys hits and becomes a star. Who will it be this year?

Mr. Irrelevant: Drumroll please……. THE LAST PICK OF THE NFL DRAFT IS….. Kobee Minor, Cornerback, from Memphis to the New England Patriots at no. 257! Minor played three seasons at Texas Tech before transferring to Indiana in 2023 and then Memphis in 2024.

The Hot Stove

āš½ļø Copa Del Ray Final

The Copa Del Ray is the Spanish Cup, where teams from different soccer divisions and leagues all across Spain compete to see who the best in the country is. In a battle of titans, Barcelona and Real Madrid faced off in the final yesterday evening in Sevilla, Spain. As it should be, the game was an instant classic. Barcelona got the early lead but Madrid ripped off two goals in 7 minutes in the second half to take the lead. Barcelona answered back just another 7 minutes later to knot it up at 2. Holy cow, what a crazy run. Both teams were scoreless for the rest of regular time and the game headed to extra time to duel it out. In the 116th minute, Jules Kounde put one in the back of the bin to vault Barcelona into the lead. All they had to do was hold on, and that they did. In an absolute instant classic, Barcelona survived 3-2 to take home the Spanish Cup against their long time rival.

šŸ€ NBA Playoff Four Piece

Cavs def. Heat, 124-87: No Darius Garland for the Cavs, home court for the Heat, this one HAS to be close… right? Right? Wrong. The Cavs just have the Heat figured out. That’s all there really is to it. The role players for Cleveland were key in this one, as the Cavs were able to blow out the Heat despite Donovan Mitchell only putting in 13 points. Jarrett Allen showed up in a big way, leading the Cavs in scoring with 22 points. Max Struss stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, the same Max Struss that Bam Adebayo said wasn’t that good. Deandre Hunter added 21 points off of the bench in his best performance of the offseason. Cavs up 3-0.

Thunder def. Grizzlies, 117-115: I’ll give the Grizzlies some well deserved credit, they left it all on the court. Without their star Ja Morant, Memphis took this one wire to wire. Scotty Pippen Jr., who filled in for Morant, poured in 30 points in his first start of the postseason. Shai was too much for Memphis, as his 38 points led the game in scoring and pushed the Thunder to a 4-game sweep. OKC officially waits for their next round opponent, the Clippers or the Nuggets.

Denver def. Clippers, 101-99: WOW! This series has been absolutely unbelievable! It is a true clash of titans in the Western Conference, and one that realistically should be a second round series. Yesterday we saw a 22 point second half Denver lead ERASED by heroics from Kawhi, Harden, and Normal Powell. The game was tied with under a minute to go. This was until possibly THE CLOSEST BUZZER BEATER IN NBA PLAYOFF HISTORY! CHECK IT OUT!

Warriors def. Rockets, 104-93: No Jimmy, No Problem. That’s because the dubs still have Steph Curry. Every game of watching that guy play is a gift! At the end of the first quarter he had two points, Steph ended with 36, 9, and 7. Draymond played great. Buddy Hield finally had a pulse. And GP2 did GP2 things down the stretch. Clutch game. Warriors go up, 2-1!

āš½ļø Wrexham Officially Secures Promotion

For those of who follow soccer, or even enjoy Always Sunny in Philadelphia, or may like Ryan Reynolds or the Deadpool series, this is for you. A couple years back, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bough a dying soccer club in Wales that was basically on the brink of extinction. Since then, pretty much all they have done is win. If you aren’t familiar with how English soccer works, it’s based on a series of promotions and demotions from one league to another. If you finish at the top of your league, you are promoted to the next league up, if you finish towards the bottom, you are demoted to the below league to make room for the new clubs. Wrexham has ripped off three consecutive promotions, the first team to do so in English football history dating back to 1888. That is absurd. Absolutely unheard of. What the club is doing is beyond historic. After their 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic yesterday, Wrexham secured another promotion and will play in the Championship league next year, one league below the all mighty English Premier League. This story keeps on getting JUICY!
