Tom Brady Can YAM!

A stadium on the equator, Philly gets better, Keegan is on the bubble, and more!

Friday! We did it, Joe! Let’s crush today and get to the weekend. Goooood Friday edition for all of you to check out: a soccer pitch on the equator, Tom Brady yamming, a social media firing, and more!

People Aren’t Talking Enough About…

⚽️The Stadium in Two Hemispheres🌐

When you head to the amazon city of Macapa, Brazil, you may head out to see a soccer game. Practically, you may head to the centermost stadium in the city. If you do, you wouldn’t be heading to Estadio Milton de Souza Correa, commonly called Zerao.

Zerao is the OTHER stadium in Macapa, but it’s undoubtedly the cooler one. It is located directly on the equator. In fact, it is built so precisely on the Equator that each half of the field lies on a different hemisphere. The stadium has only one grandstand, also split directly in half by the equator.

The nickname for the stadium, Zerao, comes from the neighborhood where it is located: Marco Zero. In English that translates to “mark zero”, a reference to the point of zero latitude, or the equator.

Teams are not only defending their own goals, but technically, they are defending their half of the equator. That’s pretty sick. When they switch sides after halftime, they defend the other side of the world.

Whoa, that’s heavy.

The stadium closed for a brief 7 years —between 2007 and 2013—but reponed in early 2014 after reinvestment from the city added a track, new seats, and flood lights.

Today’s Trivia🧠

On This Day…

In 1947, the 1st Little League World Series takes place in Williamsport, PA. The Maynard Midgets defeat the Lock Haven All-Stars, 16-7.

Initially, it was just a Pennsylvania tournament, then it blossomed beyond PA into the rest of the USA, and even internationally! What a great tournament!

You HAVE to see this…

Tom Brady can still throw it down!

Talking Points

⛳️ Live from Colorado: Day One PGA Tour

Let’s talk Keegan Bradley. The LAST guy to get into the tournament this weekend is currently the leader after day one. After an above average 2023 campaign, including a win at the Travelers Championship, Bradley has struggled all year long to break through with a win.

He played great golf today, and he’s going to have to if he wants to advance into next weeks tournament. To make the top 30 in points and make the cut for the Tour Championship, Keegan has to finish T-9 or better this weekend. He’s off to a good start.

Guys who are on the struggle bus: Max Greyserman (+6), Jason Day (+5), Justin Thomas (+4), Shane Lowry (+3), Cam Young (+3)

🏈 Embarrassment of Riches in Philly

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman has never been shy about his efforts to collect large amounts of talent on the Eagles roster. It started this offseason with the addition of Saquon Barkley, and it continued yesterday with the Eagles trading for Commanders WR Jahan Dotson.

Dotson is a bit of a mystery. The 2021 16th pick in the draft has been a little bit of a disappointment, but he is no doubt extremely talented. He will be most likely used as the slot receiver in Philly, which is exactly where he has been the most efficient in his short NFL career.

Now with Dotson, Jalen Hurts will have AJ Brown, DeVontae Smith, Saquon, Dallas Goedert, and Parris Campbell as his options.

⚾️ Fired via Social Media… WOOF

For Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais, today was NOT a safe day to be on social media. The Mariners manager went to social media today only to find out that he was being relieved of his duties, a position he has held since 2016.

The Mariners have been struggling, really struggling. Since June 18th, the team is 20-33, and gave up a 10 game lead in the division. They now are 5 games back of the surging Astros and are on the verge of maybe even missing the playoffs.

The team has been arguably the worst hitting squad in the MLB, while also being the best pitching team in baseball. That must be frustrating for the pitching staff.

Servais was 680-642 since being named the manager of the Mariners, finishing his tenure with the second best winning percentage of a Mariners manager in team history.
