Stump Story / Glue Of The Day
đ© More Than Just Doughnuts!

A Stump Story wonât do this one justice, but twice this week we got to see a peek behind the curtain of Courtland Sutton talking about the late Bronco great Demaryius Thomas (DT), who was one of the great receivers of the 2010s, and passed away in 2021 at the age of 33.
The late great Demaryius Thomas was inducted into the Denver Broncos Ring of Honor yesterday. He was a Denver great and was very deserving of this accolade. One thing that doesnât get talked about enough in pro sports is how much of an influence veteran players can have on rookies.
Sometimes we see clips of vets saying, âOf course I will help the rookies out, but itâs not my job to tell them all the secrets.â
Earlier this week, Broncos WR Courtland Sutton took to the podium and was asked about the impact DT had on him.
âWe donât have enough time to talk about all of it. Weâd be here forever.â
He was then asked about âThe Doughnut Storyâ.
You can start this clip from the 3:45 mark to see his entire answer.
When Sutton was a rookie, DT told him that he had started a tradition. Every Saturday, he would pick up dozens of Doughnuts from a local place, and bring them in for everybody in the facility. Iâm still trying to figure out the exact number, in my head itâs a lot!
Anyway, DT said he did this just because it put a smile on peopleâs face.
Anybody who answers a question like that, it tells you everything you need to know about them. He tasked then rookie Sutton with having to go pick up the Doughnuts weekly.
At first, Sutton thought it was some version of rookie hazing, but he realized a few weeks in that it was nothing like that. You can teach a lot of things on the field, but it was what DT taught Sutton off the field that he is most grateful for.
After DT passed away in 2021, Sutton has continues the Doughnut tradition since then, and he says he does it not only to honor DT, but to keep part of him in the locker room with the team every single week.
DT was 33 years old.
Yesterday in one of the most historic comebacks in recent memory, the Broncos scored a ridiculous, 33 points in the fourth quarter, and they started their final FG drive with 33 seconds on the clock!
How about that!
We could talk about all the great performances that happened on the field this weekend, but it was this moment on the podium that I canât stop thinking about. Awesome story!
