š¤ Indians Make Signing of Paige Official

After nearly 20 years playing in the Negro leagues, one of the greatest pitchers of all time finally got his chance in the big leagues.
On this day in 1948, the Cleveland Indians signed Satchel Paige, making him the oldest player to debut in the American League at the age of 42. Paige was one of the first African-American players to join the American League. A massive day in the history of not only sports, but America.

Glue Guy of the Day: The Sport of ROWING!
Morning good folks of Stumpville. Today shall we talk a little baseball, some nba free agency frenzy, or how about some football? You know what I know exactly where we should goā¦ā¦.Rowing!
Have much rowing do you have in your bag? Seen any good races recently? Have you ever rowed or know somebody who has? If you definitely let us know because weād love to hear it!
This past week we had the Henley Royal Regatta, the Super Bowl of the Rowing world. It took place from July 1 to July 6. It is held annually on the River Thames in the town of Henley-on-Thames in England. It has been happening ever since 1839. This would make this years event Super Bowl 186! Sheesh! Talk about history. Not many events can you say have been going on for that long. The only things that have ever put a pause to the race have been the two World Wars and COVID. Talk about a battle-tested event.
This week weāve got a few different rowing things for you. First off, a huge shoutout to Flo from UConn Rowing for sitting down with us and talking some Xās and Oās. Weāll be releasing that episode of the pod on Thursday, so stay tuned for that. We talked about how she got into rowing, what she loves about the sport, and balancing the two parts of the phrase āstudent-athleteā. Her humble and hungry attitude is both inspirational and contagious.
Today was just a little intro to the āSuper Bowlā of Rowing. Leave today with these three things:
The Super Bowl of Rowing is called the Henley Royal Regatta, itās been going on for a loooooooong time!
Rowing is a team sport in every sense of the word! It may not be on the front pages, but as we dive into it more, youāll see how GLUE it is!
Our pod is dropping on Thursday with Flo from UConn Rowing! Be ready!
Weekend Moments

ā½ļø Mexico def. USA 2-1, Win 10th Gold Cup
The Stump Short Story: Weāve got the World Cup right at home next summer, the Gold Cup was a test to see where the boys in red, white, and blue were at. We didnāt have the entire cavalry, but still many eyes were watching. Last nights final against rival Mexico started off great with a Chris Richards goal off a Sebastian Berhalter free kick in the fourth minute. Unfortunately the was the first and only goal for the boys. It was Edson Alvarez who scored the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute to help lead Mexico to its record 10th CONCACAF Gold Cup Title.
Why it Matters: Again, we were missing some studs, but it would have been great to see this team take home some hardware and build a snowball of momentum leading up to the World Cup. This was the last competitive match for Mauricio Pochettino and company before the big one, and we will have to wait and see what noise is around USMNT camp in the coming months.

š Chestnut Wins 17th Mustard Belt
The Stump Short Story: This is what I imagine it was like to watch Wilt average 50 points in a season. Just witness a guy so much better than the rest of the competition. Thatās what Joey Chestnut is when it comes to the Nathanās Hot Dog Eating Contest. We talked about it on Friday, but after being banned from the tournament last year, he came back, and he came back with only one thing on his mindā¦a statement. With a grand total of 70.5 dogs, Chestnut blew away the rest of the field and won his 17th title! Greatness!
Why it Matters: Without Chestnut, the competition just didnāt feel right last year. It was whole again on Friday. He didnāt quite reach his record of 76 hot dogs when he put them down in 2021, but he was close. You know what this sicko said at the end in his victory speech. āReally wanted to put a few more down for you guys. Itās ok, Iāll be back next year.ā 70 in 10 minutes was not enough for JC!

ā³ļø Campbell Captures John Deere
The Stump Short Story: Thereās athletes who are boom or bust, and then thereās Brian Campbell. It took an extra playoff hole for him to outlast Emiliano Grillo, but in the end, Campbell secured his second win of the PGA season this weekend at the John Deere Classic in Illinois.
Why it Matters: In all of his appearances this year, Campbell has just two finishes in the top 30: his win this week, and his win at the Mexico Open. Every other appearance has been below the 30 mark. Boom, or bust. Both of his wins came in the form of a playoff.
