On This Day

šŸ… Tiger Is Dominant

There’s some Tiger Woods stats out there that just absolutely blow my mind. In this case, this tournament win was one of the most dominant in the history of the sport.

On this day in 2000, Tiger Woods put the bow on his record-setting US Open win by finishing 15-strokes over the second place finisher. FIFTEEN! Tiger was the only person to finish under par at -12, while Ernie Els and Miguel Angel Jimenez tied for second at +3.

Glue Guy of the Day

šŸ’ Paul Maurice! The Panthers Are Back-To-Back CHAMPS!

Glue Guy of the Day: Florida Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice

Last night the Panthers closed the door on the Stanley Cup Finals, and they defended their crown. The Oilers came out flat on the road and never quite got their footing in a must-win game. The Panthers are your Back-To-Back CHAMPS!

The guy to showcase today is head coach Paul Maurice. Yeah, you’ll see him often with either funny quips or viral soundbites after games, but there’s a lot more than you see on the podium.

Think about how many different head coaches there have been in the NHL over the last 100 years. Do you know which coach has lost the most games in NHL history? Yeah, that’d be Maurice. Long known for his tenure rather than his winning. After retiring as a player, he quickly joined the coaching path, going ALLLLL the way back to 1988.

Carry the 2, add the 4. Yeah, that’s a lot of years!

The narrative around Maurice has now gone from being a guy who’s ā€˜been around forever’ to now a back-to-back champion. A legacy that will live on forever.

In classic glue fashion, his first quote after the win was about the players. ā€œThese guys love each other.ā€ Glue.

The Panthers now are the third team in the last 10 years to win back-to-back titles (kind of a wild stat), and both of these chips were with Paul Maurice at the helm! HAVE A DAY PAUL! HAVE A DAY!

Paul Maurice. GLUE.

Yesterday’s Moments

āš¾ļø Devers Speaks Out in San Fran

The Stump Short Story: After the Red Sox ousted Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants just a few days ago, rumors swirled about what actually went on behind the scenes. The true story nobody on the outside will probably ever know, but what we do know is that it was ugly. Raffy refused to play the field after the Red Sox continued to him and haw about what future they had in store for Raffy. So, he got pissed. Then, the Red Sox got pissed. But what did Raffy say in his opening interview in San Fran? He’ll play whatever they tell him.

Why it Matters: As a Sox fan, this one hurts to see. It could’ve been so simple. But instead, it wasn’t. It got ugly. But it never had to get to that point. I like Raffy, and honestly, I saw this one coming. I knew he was going to call out the Sox in this fashion. He deserves to say it, his name has been dragged through the mud. This is just another instance of Red Sox upper management treating their stars poorly since the retirement of David Ortiz. So, so sad for Boston fans.

šŸ¤• Pacers’ Haliburton Playing Through Pain

The Stump Short Story: With their season on the line, the Pacers best player is playing through some serious pain. A calf strain is no joke, and Tyrese Haliburton is surely feeling some soreness heading into Game 6 in the coming day. Tyrese has made it clear that under no circumstance will he miss this next game, but does that really matter? Without a healthy Tyrese, I don’t know what kind of firepower they can bring forth. I do know this, however, is that anyone would be a FOOL to count out this Pacers team. I can’t see this team giving up, and I can’t see Tyrese not leaving it all out there on the floor.

Why it Matters: Injuries can be the death of a postseason run. It’s just true. Often times, the healthiest team finds their way into the deeper runs. The Pacers have been healthy. But it’s a long season, things add up. I’d bet every player on the floor has bumps and bruises. It’s all about who has the most heart. I know the Pacers have heart. I know OKC has heart. Game 6, no matter who’s at full strength or now, will be a cage match. For that, I can’t wait.
