⛳️ First Masters Names its Champion

There are not many events in sports that transcend the game like the Master Tournament, and it was on this day in 1934 that the inaugural tournament named its champion.

The first ever Masters, originally known as the Augusta National Invitational Tournament, started on March 22nd, 1934. The four-day event culminated on March 25th, with Horton Smith winning with a score of -4.

March Madness

🏀 Bueckers Show in Storrs, CT

AP Photo // Jessica Hill

The University of Connecticut and its fans have been blessed to have some of the best basketball players to walk the earth settle down at their campus in Storrs, Connecticut. One of the best to ever wear the women’s jersey, Paige Bueckers, played her final game in Gampel Pavilion after five years as the undisputed leader of the team and face of UConn basketball. In true Bueckers style, she saved her best for last.

With UConn off to a pretty uninspiring start against South Dakota in their second-round matchup, the Huskies needed to turn it up a north or two. In steps Paige. She took over the first quarter, scoring 14 points and running the offense with the ease and confidence that Husky fans have grown accustomed to. In all, she totaled 34 points, tying a career-high and the most by a UConn player in March Madness since Maya Moore dropped 36 against Notre Dame in the Final Four.

With 3:38 remaining and the Huskies stretching their lead to just about 30 points, head coach Geno Auriemma checked her out of the game. She did so to a standing ovation from the home crowd. She even got to take the microphone after the game and thank her supporters for everything. A true hero’s moment for a player who had so much hype and went through so many challenges during her time in college.

All that’s left for Paige is one thing: win a National Championship. In years past, it seemed like a bit of a stretch given the size and dominance of South Carolina, but UConn already showed once that they have exercised their Gamecock demons when they went to Columbia earlier in the year and dominated. These teams feel like the UConn squads of old, where their star orchestrated beautiful basketball and the support system around her was full of individuals who were stars in their own right.

This team has just that. While Bueckers can dominate a game in an instant and take over whenever she wants, she also has elite talent around her. Azzi Fudd, a senior who has had her own fair share of ups and downs at UConn dealing with injuries, looks to be absolutely red hot right now and locked in like never before shooting behind the arc. They also have a dominant freshman big, Sarah Strong, who is a walking double-double in her own right.

Surrounding those three, the team has depth, is finally healthy, and the veteran leadership needed to make a deep run. Oh, and they also have the greatest coach in college basketball history, Geno. Is this the year that the Huskies finally get back to the top of the women’s basketball world?

🏀 DOUBLE OT MADNESS in Women’s Hoops

It wasn’t on a primetime slot, so you may have missed it, but yesterday (4) Maryland vs (5) Alabama was a cinematic masterpiece! Maryland def. Alabama in 2OT, 111-108! Alabama’s Sarah Ashlee Barker had a career-high 45 points on the night, including three free throws with 0.7 seconds in OT to bring it to a second extra period! It was Sarah Te-Biasu who was the hero for Maryland, scoring 8 of her 26 points in 2OT to help the Terps advance to the Sweet Sixteen! They now have a date with South Carolina! Double OT in March, you gotta love it!

🔵 Mavs Win in AD’s Return!

On Feb 2nd, the trajectory of the Mavs franchise changed forever. They lost their franchise player. In return, even though it wasn’t talked about enough, they received Anthony Davis, who, at his peak, can play like a Top 10 player in the league. The only problem is that he is rarely at his peak. Last night, he came back from injury, and the Mavs got a 120-101 over the Brooklyn Nets. The Mavs are currently the 11-seed in the West and look to make a late push into the Play-In spot!

⚽️ Pochettino Talks USMNT

The new head man for the United States Mens National Team, Mauricio Pochettino, has had to comment after the recent losses from the team in the CONCACAF Nations League. USA lost to Canada 2-1, and he asked for patience as he tries to figure things out. The 2026 World Cup will be here sooner than you think, and with the United States being the host nation, man I hope we can do something special!
