All-Time Name: Miller Moss

The New Starting QB for USC, Dan Marino History, Sinner wins in Cincinnati, and a Colt McCoy Farewell

One name, two words. Miller Moss! The new starting QB for the USC Trojans has earned it! Check out our blip below about the kid who’s First Team All-Heart! Other than that we’ve got some Dan Marino history, a Colt McCoy farewell, and a TUA BOMB that made NFL headlines! Happy Tuesday squad!

People Aren’t Talking Enough About…

🏈 Miller Moss And His Patience 🏈

We’re taking a quick trip to Southern California!

Yesterday, USC Head Coach went to the podium to announce the team’s starting Quarterback. Big shoes to fill after the departure of Caleb Wiliams, who is being advertised as the greatest thing since sliced bread (which who knows maybe he is).

He went to the stand and announced that Redshirt Junior Miller Moss would be leading the team into battle in their Week 1 matchup in Las Vegas against the LSU Tigers (September 1st).

Moss has almost exclusively been the backup QB at USC for 3 whole seasons! In an era where QB’s seem to leave at the exact moment of discomfort, this is impressive to see. He knew when Caleb came in that he would be sitting an entire year an instead of hitting the portal, the Southern Cal native stayed with the Trojans.

Last season when Williams sat out of the Holiday Bowl, Moss played a phenomenal game. He threw for a Holiday Bowl record 6 TDs to go along with 372 yards and 23 for 33 passing. He put the world on notice and now gets his shot.

I’m not the best with shapes but I know HEART when I see it. Anybody who stays with their team and waits for their shot has it! Rooting for you Miller, go be GREAT!

Today’s Trivia🧠

How many international players were in the NBA in the 2023-2024 season?

  • A. 95

  • B. 53

  • C. 125

  • D. 175

  • E. 24

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

In 1991, Miami Dolphins QB Dan Marino surpasses 49ers QB Joe Montana as the highest paid player in NFL history when he inks a 5-year extension worth $25 million.

For comparison, Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence are currently the highest paid QBs in the NFL, both are set to make $55 million. That’s 11x as much as Marino signed for in 1991. Crazy.

Talking Points

🏈 Tua Talks Brian Flores

We’re a few seasons removed from Brian Flores being the Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins. It wasn’t a pretty break-up either.

We always knew it wasn’t pretty but the severity was unknown. Tua had this to say about his former head coach…

“To put it in simplest terms, if you woke up every morning and I told you that you suck at what you did, that you don’t belong doing what you do, that you haven’t earned this right.”

WILD scene in Miami. Safe to say that the Brian Flores method, or whatever you want to call it was not taken well by Tua.

🏈 Thank you, Colt McCoy!

College Football and University of Texas legend Colt McCoy hung up the cleats yesterday after a 14-year NFL career. During his time at Texas, he won 45 games as a four-year starter (an NCAA record), a National Championship appearance, while also being a two-time Heisman Award Finalist.

He was drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Browns, but never really could figure it out. He went on to play for the 49ers, Commanders, Giants, and Cardinals as a backup with some spot starts here and there.

It’s safe to say this man will never have to pay for a drink in the Austin, Texas area again. We’ll be seeing lots more of Colt on TV as he will serve as an analyst for NBC moving forward.

🎾 World No. 1 Jannik Sinner wins Cincinnati Open

We have entered a new era in tennis. No more Nadal, no more Murray. Federer has also been out of the scene for a bit now. We do have Djokovic but it seems like his time could be coming soon as well.

The next generation is headlined by Carlos Alcaraz and current World No. 1 Jannik Sinner (Italy). The 23-year-old just won the Cincinnati Open in straight sets over American Francis Tiafoe.

He will take this momentum into the US Open in Flushing, NY.

Nothing like a little STONES to get your day off to the best start possible. When I listen to this song on the way into work, I feel like I’m in a 90’s mob movie. That’s a good thing.
