We’re talking Vice Presidents today! It was On This Day in 1971 when VP Spiro Agnew attended a Golf Charity event. All was good and well until VP Agnew attempted a ‘celeb shot’ off the tee and SHANKED IT WIDE RIGHT! Everybody’s worst nightmare, he hit two spectators in the process! Not one, BUT TWO! Some luck.

VP Agnew was known for his bad luck in golf after hitting golf professional Doug Sanders off the tee box a couple of years prior!

⚾️ Bregman Signs on in Boston

What to know: Alex Bregman turns 31 just a few days into the 2025 season, but this off-season was his first experience as a free agent. After a rollercoaster of teams “interested” in Bregman, including multiple offers rescinded and then reopened by his former franchise in Houston, Bregman has officially found a new home.

Bregman and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a three-year, $120 million deal. The deal has two built-in opt-outs to protect Bregman’s future. It was rumored that Bregman and his agent, Scott Boras, were asking for six year and or seven-year deals to bring him to the end of his career. Instead, he signed a three-year deal with Boston that averaged more money per year.

His best season came in 2019, when he hit .296 with 41 home runs and secured his first Silver Slugger award, ending the season in second place in AL MVP voting. Bregman has fallen off a little, averaging .260 in 2024 to go along with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs. But Bregman brings a lot more to Boston than just hitting.

He’s a two-time World Series Champion and known as one the best personalities and locker room leaders in all of baseball. On top of that, he has one of those rare things that not many players his age have: health. Besides an injury-riddled 2021, Bregman has played in 145 games or more in six of the last seven seasons.

The Red Sox get a big-time bat and another locker room leader, as Bregman will allow guys like Raffy Devers to thrive in the lineup and take some of the pressure off. One of the most coveted free agents in baseball ends up in the middle of the Red Sox lineup.

4 Nations Face-Off

🏒 Game One Ends in OT Winner

What to know: The first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off game was an absolute master class of international hockey.

Canada started this one with a goal just 56 seconds into the game, with all three of their stars touching the puck. Connor McDavid threw a cross-ice pass to Sidney Crosby, who then sent a behind-the-back beauty to Nate MacKinnon, who was sitting at the side of the net, and powered the puck into the back of the net.

Canada’s second line continued their early success 13 minutes into the first period with a beauty from Boston Bruins legend Brad Marchand to give them a 2-0 lead and put an exclamation mark on a beautiful start. Sweden was shocked, and honestly, they looked like they didn’t belong on the ice with Canada.

Not so fast. A mid-second-period goal for Sweden brought the game back to a one-goal difference. Minutes later, Canada answered back. 3-1. A brutal blow for Sweden. Not so fast, again, for Sweden. Two early third-period goals for team Sweden tied it all up. Canada, who looked so in control of this one, had let it slip.

OT came, and it was chaos. The 3-on-3 style allows for a lot of good looks on goal, and both Canada and Sweden’s net-miners answered the call. Multiple big-time stops and athletic plays extended the OT into the 6th minute, until Mitch Marner showed up. A beauty of a pass from Sidney Crosby and a snipe over the right shoulder of Sweden’s goalie put Canada on top. It was Crosby’s third assist of the game, he was named MVP of the game.

Premier League

⚽️ MAYHEM in Merseyside

What to know: While the second day of the Champions League marched on, the Premier League had itself a little bit of an UGLY scene in their lone match on the schedule.

The Merseyside derby, between Everton and Liverpool, was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish. It was high tension and absolute mayhem at times, but it wasn’t until the bitter end that things got really aggressive.

Everton captain James Tarkowski equalized the match in the 98th minute, earning Everton a very hard-fought match draw. The game ended in an ugly scene, with both fights getting into a big-time SCUFFLE! Abdoulaye Doucoure sparked the whole thing when he went over to the away Liverpool crowd and taunted them after the final whistle.

Both teams’ players got into a heated soccer version of a fight, which is basically a lot of pushing and shoving, a lot of talk, and not a lot of action. But there was plenty of juicy action to get the Everton crowd JUICED up. They started chanting, “Forever Everton”, and I’m sure there were many bumps of the goose variety throughout the stadium.

It was a perfect symbol of the two twos bitter history. Following yesterday’s match and 131 years of derbies, the teams are tied at 41 wins apiece and 38 draws. This was the last match at historic Goodison Park, as Everton will make their way to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock for the 2025-26 season.
