The Story Behind The Pod: “The Hassan Diarra Game”

A few years back the UConn Huskies added a point guard in the transfer portal, his name was Hassan Diarra. In the early parts of the season, the SGS boys often found themselves looking for a guy on the team to root for. As we love underdogs and the gritty guys who do all the small things (hence the ‘Glue Guy of the Day’), we instantly fell in love with a guy who didn’t play a whole lot. Hassan was an elite defender, had the junkyard dog mentality, and was a spark plug off the bench.

We started rooting for Hassan a little harder, we even started saying “The Hassan Diarra game”, which to us meant that every game Hassan had a chance to have his breakout performance. Well, Hassan hasn’t quite had THE game in his career yet but it’s coming. What he does have is two national championships and the title of the undoubtable GLUE GUY of the UConn Huskies since he walked on campus. He’s one of our favorite players to root for, the gritty guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and battles every possession.

Hassan is slated to be a starter this upcoming season on what is expected to be another highly successful UConn team. There will be a ‘Hassan Diarra Game’ this upcoming season, we have no doubt about it, maybe even a couple. But for now, we have the ‘Hassan Diarra Pod’. If you told us that 2 years ago when we started the saying, we would’ve probably punched you in the face.
