🥳 Bryson Gets to Celebrate

There hasn’t been many better celebrations in the world of golf than when Bryson DeChambeau took home the 2024 US Open.
On this day in 2024, Bryson DeChambeau took home the win over Rory McIlroy and others at the US Open. It was an electric back and forth battle, but nothing was more electric than his victory celebration. Bryson took the trophy all over the course, and then brought it all over the world. The tournament that solidified Bryson as a cool guy!

🌧️ Bad Weather Golf

Glue Guy of the Day: Bad Weather Golf
Rain usually ruins a good golf day, but not yesterday. Yesterday, rain made golf even better. The bad weather came rolling in just as the leaders crossed into the back nine at Oakmont Golf Club, a weather delay followed in suit. When the players walked off the course, Sam Burns was the solo leader. JJ Spaun, who was the leader going into the weekend, five shots off the lead after an absolutely brutal front nine of five over par.
Whatever JJ Spaun did during the delay, he should take note of it. He played inspired golf down the back, shooting three-under in the last seven holes. As the rest of the field battled the weather and seemingly couldn’t make a shot to save their lies, JJ could. Adam Scott, Sam Burns, Tyrell Hatton, Carlos Ortiz, and Victor Hovland, none of them could make the big shot. When it mattered most, JJ did. He sunk a 60+ft putt on the 18th to bring his lead to two shots and take the victory.
JJ, like the rest of the field (not named Bobby MacIntyre), could’ve fallen apart. I mean, he had every reason to. He caught every bad bounce on the front nine, and he was way out of contention. He stayed consistent, he stayed hungry, kept his emotions in check, and battled back.
JJ has been candid about his struggles with his mental toughness, he even stepped away from the game for a brief moment last year. The going got tough, the rain came in, but with his back against the wall, he fought back. What an inspiring round of golf, and an even better lesson on life and persistence. Bad weather golf showed us the best of JJ Spaun, an
d I’m damn thankful for it.

🔥 Grizz Deal Bane to Magic
The Stump Short Story: It’s not often you see a trade that really works out for both teams, but I’d make an argument that this is one of those trades. The Grizzlies needed to make a change, somewhere and somehow. Memphis gets Kentavious Caldwell Pope, Cole Anthony and FOUR first round picks. That’s a massive haul. They now have the opportunity to change not only the present of their franchise, but the future. The Magic now are in the conversation as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference with the addition of Bane, who averaged 19.2 points per game this year and will provide a massive scoring boost.
Why it Matters: Pairing Desmond Bane with Paolo will be an elite combo, especially given Bane’s consistency and three-point shooting success. Orlando’s Achilles heel last year was their inability to shoot from beyond the arc. In terms of the Grizzlies, Jarret Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant now become the lone faces of the franchise. With all the draft picks, I’m not sure what the next move is for Memphis. It could be to load up on young talent, or they could move the picks for another star. Either way, they have options now, and they didn’t before.

😢 Sox Trade Raffy in Blockbuster
The Stump Short Story: Well, you can once again cancel the Red Sox season, I suppose. After a massive three-game series sweep over their rival Yankees, Boston’s front office awarded fans and the team by trading away the face of their franchise. Don’t get me wrong, I get why they did it. Boston and Devers have been feuding all season long about the whole DH-third base situation, and I guess the front office thought that argument was a dealbreaker. Now, Raffy heads to San Francisco to hit baseballs a long way. The Giants just got a lot better and for everyone who weren’t sure if they were for real, they are now.
Why it Matters: The one benefit to all of this is the Red Sox aren’t paying any of Raffy’s deal, so that’s off the books. But Red Sox fans are tired of losing, and it shows. Another season that now seems to be doomed, just as it was getting red hot. I’d say Alex Bregman moves into the DH spot until he’s fully healthy again. Red Sox fans (me), I’m sorry.
