Pac-12 Pulse Check

Thursday Night Showdown in Miami, NL Wild Card is Getting Hot, A Women Who Went Round the World, and More!

Quick congratulations to fantasy owners of James Cook! If you’re playing against him, then we apologize. Big win for the Bills last night on Thursday Night Football! We’ve got a lot more to report…The Pac-12 has a pulse, the fastest woman to cycle the world, and the status of the NL Wild Card race! A lot to unpack, let’s do this!

Today’s Trivia🧠

🏈 The Pac-12 was a historic conference when it existed, what was the last Pac-12 team to win a National Championship?

  • A. UCLA

  • B. California

  • C. USC

  • D. Washington

  • E. Stanford

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

In 1982, Phillies pitcher Steve Carlton threw a complete-game shutout AND hit a HR in a 2-0 victory over St. Louis. Yes, this is wild but get this. This was the 4th time in his career he accomplished this feat.

He became the first player in MLB to do this in three different decades! Just an absolute wolf throwing missiles and hitting dingers.

Last Steve Carlton stat for you, in 1972 he won 27 games, on a Phillies team that only won 59 games overall! Nuts stats out of Steve-O!

What’s Worth Your Time

🏈 Let. James. Cook. (Bills def. Dolphins 31-10)

Let. James. Cook.

A recurring theme in the AFC East has been the Bills majority stake ownership in the Miami Dolphins. Josh Allen is 11-2 against the Dolphins and the numbers are bananas! Yesterday was the most recent chapter in the same story. The Bills won 31-10 behind a HAT TRICK of TDs from James Cook.

A scary sight on the Miami side of the ball as Tua went down with what was ruled as another concussion. Tua has had a history of brutal concussions in the past and it was not a pretty sight last night. Hoping for the best for Tua.

🚴‍♀️Fastest Women To Cycle Around the World

If you’ve ever sat there and wondered how long it may take to cycle around the world, well the answer is about three and a half months. That’s if you spend your whole life preparing for this. So for y’all, let’s say five months.

American and native of the 49th great state, Alaska, Lael Wilcox cycled around the world, including 21 countries and 18,125 miles in three and a half months. She arrived back in Chicago at about 9:00 PM locally, 108 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes. SMASHING the previous record of 124 days and 11 hours set in 2018.

According to Guinness, a cyclist must travel in the same direction, start and finish in the same place, and rack up at least 18,000 miles - the total circumference of the globe - for it to be considered a successful attempt. In conclusion, Lael Wilcox, BADASS!

🏈 It’s ALIVEE! It’s ALIVEEE! The PAC-12!

“The Pac-12 is DEAD!” Think about all the times that’s been said throughout the last year. And it’s absolutely true. One of college football’s ‘Power 5’ conferences is down to just Washington State and Oregon State. So it’s probably safe to assume that one of the most historic conferences in college football will just roll over and die right? WRONG.

We’ve got some reinforcements on the West Coast. Mountain West teams Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado State are set to join the Pac-12 in 2026.

A conference that lost 10 TEAMS is showing some fight! You need 8 to be officially considered a conference, so there’s still more work to do. This isn’t the last we’ll be hearing of moves from the Pac-12.

⚾️ NL Wild Card is SPICYYYYYYYY!

Yeah, it’s that time of the year, and if you’re a Mets or Braves fan, buckle up because it’s going to be a WILD ride. As it stands right now, the Mets are a game up on the Braves for the final Wild Card spot in the NL.

The Padres sit 1.5 games ahead of the Mets, and the Diamondbacks sit .5 a game above them. Those teams are red hot right now and it feels as if they are going to be just fine and will settle into those top two Wild Card spots when it is all said and done.

For the Mets and Braves, the two franchises go way back. Historically, they HATE each other. The Braves have been one of the best teams in baseball these past few years but have faced numerous injuries this year. The Mets, well we know about the Mets. This year they have that Mets aura about them. A team for some reason just gets it done. They have the hottest player in baseball in Francisco Lindor and well, he might just be enough.

⚽️Tough Day to Be a Knee

You may not have heard of Boavista FC out of Porto, Portugal, but they play in the highest division of soccer in Portugal. They were founded in 1903, and play at the Estadio de Bessa. Why am I telling you all of this? Because it was a tough day for them.

In the same practice yesterday, both their starting and backup Goalie crumbled and tore their ACLs. Minutes apart from one another. Joao Goncalves and Luis Pires both managed to tear the same ACL. Woof.

This leaves the team with one goalie left, and he just so happens to be 17 years old. Tome Sousa will be getting the starting nod, by default. Sousa will make his debut on Monday when they play at Estrela de Amadora. Go Boavista!

Yesterday, but the Good Stuff❗️❗️

Trivia Answer:

C. USC! The Trojans took home the National Championship in 2004 when they TRAMPLED Oklahoma 55-19 in the Orange Bowl. This team was actually stripped of its title in 2011 due to the Reggie Bush situation.
