Today’s Trivia🧠
Which team has never been a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC)?
(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)
On This Day…

⚾ In 1905, the first league-sanctioned baseball World Series began! The Philadelphia A’s (AL) took on the New York Giants (NL, and yes, we’re talking baseball), as the Giants won 3-0 in game 1 at Columbia Park. The Giants won the series 4 games to 1.
The A’s were managed by legendary baseball manager Connie Mack, while the Giants were led by John McGraw. NY’s Christy Mathewson pitched three shutouts in the span of six days!

🧱Ulbrich in, Saleh Out: J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS!

When a head coach gets fired, people often spend a lot of their time focusing on the guy who left, never the guy who replaced him. That feels pretty natural, as a midseason firing is a pretty monumental move. But for the Jets, the new guy in town might just be the guy for the job.
When the Jets decided to move on from Robert Saleh yesterday afternoon, the sports world was lit on fire. All signs pointed towards a rift between star QB Aaron Rodgers and the aforementioned Saleh, but it was the Jets owner, Woody Johnson, who worked alone on the decision.
Johnson’s interest was piqued in 2023 when the 49ers came calling about Jeff Ulbrich, who spent the last few seasons as the defensive coordinator in New York. The Niners wanted Ulbrich in the same position he had in NY. Ulbrich is a Cali boy who spent his whole playing career in San Fran, but the Jets denied the interview request.
Johnson, who probably denied the Niners request himself, named Ulbrich their new head coach, replacing Saleh.
Ulbrich is 47 years old, he played his college ball at the University of Hawai’i, and this is his first head coaching role. Ulbrich began his coaching career the year after his early retirement following a significant concussion. He started with the Seahawks, moved to UCLA, and then joined the Falcons staff in 2015 during the Dan Quinn era and was hired as the Jets defensive coordinator in 2021.
Since his hire, the Jets have been one of the NFL’s best defenses, but one of the reasons he’s been so successful is what people think of him as a man. Ulbrich is intense but highly respected, “He cares for us as players and you can tell as a player, the way we go out there and play for him…it’s not by accident.”
Maybe that’s what this team needs. A guy who will literally run through a wall for his squad. Ulbrich, according to the players, is the same guy every day. He’s consistent, he’s steady, and he’s intense. In a world of extreme inconsistency, maybe Ulbrich can calm the seas.
The 2-3 Jets are currently on their bye week but will take on their division rival the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football on the 14th of October.

He didn’t ACTUALLY say this, but that’s basically what he did to Drake Maye when he told him his first start as a pro would be against the Texans.
