Ohtani: A Real Life Unicorn

Ohtani and Tina Charles make history, day three of the Champions League, The Yanks are in, and a father-son basketball duo!

Friday! Friday! Friday! But before we get into it all, we had a CRAZY Thursday in the sports world to get into. When I say crazy, I mean record-breaking crazy. That went along well with Champions League Day Three and some updates on the Kiyan Anthony situation. Let’s just absolutely DOMINATE today and head into the weekend with a purpose!

Today’s Trivia🧠

🏈College football is off to a hot start this year, and with the new 12-team playoff, it’s anyone’s year. Which football program has won the MOST national championships?

  • A. Alabama

  • B. Yale

  • C. Notre Dame

  • D. Michigan

  • E. Southern California (USC)

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

🏌️‍♂️In 1913, 20-year-old amateur American Francis Ouimet won his only US Open title in an 18-hole playoff, defeating heavy British favorites Harry Vardon and Ted Ray by 5-strokes.

If this story sounds familiar, it’s because you’ve probably seen the movie. “The Greatest Game Ever Played”, a 2005 film based on the life of Francis Ouimet and his amazing run to win the US Open, where Ouimet is played by Shia LaBeouf. Great film and it’s on Disney+!

⚽️Champions League Day 3

Alrighty folks a great day three of the Champions League took place yesterday, so it’s our DUTY to break down the big wins, bad loses, and ugly draws!

Benfica 2, Red Star 1: Benfica benefited from their two Turkish stars, Kerem Akturkoglu and Orkun Kochu, as they both scored early in the match to score just enough goals. Red Star put one in the bin late in a comeback attempt.

Athletic 2, Leipzig 1: Atletico went down QUICK after a 4th minute Leipzig goal, but managed to get one back in the middle of the first half. The game remained tied until Antoine Griezmann scored one in the 90th minute.

Atalanta 0, Arsenal 0: Both sides struggled offensively but it was Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya who saved the day. Raya secured a sensational penalty save to ensure the 0-0 draw for Arsenal.

Monaco 2, Barcelona 1: Barcelona was doomed from the start. A 10th-minute red card from Eric Garcia had the boys from Spain playing with 10 men on the field the rest of the game. Monaco was able to put two goals in the back of the bin, while Barcelona could only muster one goal from their young phenom Lamine Yamal.

⚾️Ohtani: Simply Masterful

Wow. It was an absolute Ohtani SHOW last night in LA. I can’t wait to get into this article.

For those of you who don’t really watch baseball, Ohtani is the greatest player to ever play the game. Last night, he became the first player to ever hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases. It’s not like he just quietly did it while nobody was watching, he did it with an absolute BANG.

Ohtani hit three home runs, stole two bases, and had 10 RBIs in a six-hit game that led to a 20-4 Dodgers win. He was dominant.

The at-bat that sent him over 50 home runs came in the 7th inning, Ohtani came to bat with runners on second and third with two outs. Many weren’t sure if the Marlins would throw to Ohtani, but they did. And Ohtani made them regret it. Home run #50.

He is simply the greatest to ever do it. His unique combination of pure power and speed is something we have never seen before. I think sometimes we forget that this guy is one of the best pitchers in baseball. Throws 100mph and is a strikeout machine. He is a unicorn. No doubt about it.

🏀Father and Son, Basketball Balancing Act

A lot of us remember Carmelo Anthony as one of the greatest one-year wonders in college basketball history. Anthony led the 2003 Syracuse Orange to the national championship in his freshman year. But pushing his son to wear the orange? Never.

Kiyan Anthony, the 36th-ranked recruit in the 2025 ESPN 100 rankings, is a four-star recruit and has Syracuse, Auburn, Florida State, USC, and Rutgers as his final five schools. Kiyan claims his father has never once pressured him into a decision, “He never pushes me to go to Syracuse just because his name is on the gym.”

Carmelo is at Cuse a lot, he works out there, he practices with the team, I mean his name is on the damn building. But Kiyan is his own person, and his father and mother allowing him to make the decision on his own, is refreshing.

From the moment he picked up a basketball, you knew that he would be linked to Syracuse no matter what. We’ll see where Kiyan decides to play college basketball, but it’s safe to say a large group of people in upstate NY would like his presence.

⚾️ Yankees 1st Team in AL to CLINCH Playoff Spot!

Yes, the New York Yankees have 27 championships. The last one was in 2009. I was 7 years old. I’m 22 now! Gotta win the big one fellas.

With their win over the Mariners on Wednesday night, the Yankees clinched their 7th playoff berth in the last 8 years, with the exception being last year’s postseason miss. The boys had a good-bad-good sandwich this season. Started off hot, lulled around the all-star break, and now have some momentum on their side. They still are in a fight for the division with the Orioles but have a 5-game lead and are in a good position to win it.

The story of the pinstripes the last decade and a half has been postseason letdowns. They make it to the dance but don’t have the moves. With the addition this year of Juan Soto, the boys in pinstripes seem primed to make a run. We’ll see what happens down the stretch.

🏀Tina Charles Sets TWO Records

When it comes to WNBA Ironwomen, it doesn’t get much better than Tina Charles. The UConn alum has been consistently one of the best in the league, and she proved why last night.

With the final playoff spot on the line, the Atlanta Dream and Tina Charles were in a win-and-in situation. Well, they won, they’re in, and Tina Charles broke some records along the way.

She passed Slyvia Fowles in both career rebounds and career double-doubles last night to entrench herself as one of the most dominant big women the W has ever seen.

Charles was also honored before the game as she was inducted into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame along with no other former players and coaches.

Charles is the only WNBA player with 7,000 points and 4,000 rebounds in her career, she ranks second on the career scoring list behind Diana Taurasi.
