The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen!

Another great Sunday in NFL football: We were treated with the Lions and Bills, an Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams Back to the Future type game, Mac Jones doing the rizzler face, and the Bucs lightin up the Chargers in LA. All of this, and more from the rest of the sports world in todays edition of THE DAILY STUMP…

On This Day…

🏈 On this day in 2019, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees breaks Peyton Manning’s career touchdown pass record with his 540th touchdown.

Brees would end his career with 571 touchdowns, which now sits second all-time behind Tom Brady.

Today’s Stump Story…

🏈 Nobody Circles the Wagons Like the Buffalo Bills

Ever since the Josh Allen era started we’ve been talking about the Buffalo Bills, but is this finally it?

You may take the easy way out of this article by thinking, “talk to me when they finally win something…”, but that’s just lazy. The Buffalo Bills are winning things, and I don’t think there’s much doubt that they are the Super Bowl Favorites right now, especially after Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes went down with an injury yesterday.

This Bills team may be, on paper, the LEAST talented of all of the recent Bills teams. They don’t have Diggs, they don’t have Gabe Davis, they lost starters on defense in both the offseason and to long term injuries this year, and they changed offensive coordinators in the middle of the season last year.

All of that being said, the Bills have scored 30-plus points in eight straight games, a franchise-record and the first time it has happened in the NFL since 2013. Buffalo has taken down the Niners, Lions, and Chiefs in three of the last four games. All three of those teams were in the Conference championship last year.

If it weren’t for a 44-42 thriller in LA against the Rams in early December, the Bills would be on a nine-game win streak. It would be hard for me to get through this article without featuring the man behind the Bills: Josh Allen.

Allen is the MVP favorite and has done everything for the Bills this year. He’s been lethal through the air, and used his feet to his advantage once again. He’s done so by having a pretty new cast of characters, especially at the WR position, and a revolving door of offensive lineman as injuries have plagued the room. He’ll be the absolute reason why the Bills win or lose this year, and he is surely the reason they are winning this year.

Quick Hitters

🏈 Injuries from NFL Sunday: Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb suffered a broken foot and will miss the rest of the season. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes banged up his ankle and his availability for next week versus Houston. The Lions defense lost three defensive starters to likely season-ending injuries: CB Khalil Dorsey, DT Alim McNeill, CB Carlton Davis. Dolphins WR Grant DuBose left yesterday’s game with a concussion, and is staying in the hospital following the game, there has been positive updates on his health.

💸 Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman landed a long-term contract extension with the university yesterday, which secures him in South Bend for six more years. The No. 7 Irish will hosts the No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers on Friday night after finishing this year at 11-1.

⚽️ Manchester Derby: Manchester City was booed off the pitch by their fans yesterday as manager Pep Guardiola was met with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” by United fans after Man U’s 2-1 victory. City has now lost eight of their past 11 games — their worst run since 2003. Amad Biallo netted a 90th minute game winner to push Man U to victory.
