On This Day
🤕 A Famous Injury

Sometimes players are more famous for their injuries than anything they may have ever done on the field. That’s the case with this former Boston Red Sox.
On this day in 1967, Boston Red Sox Tony Conigliaro is beaned in the face by a pitch from Angels pitcher Jack Hamilton. Conigliaro, one of baseballs most promising young stars, fractured his cheekbone, dislocated his jaw, and brutally damaged his vision when he took the pitch. He was forced to sit out over a year and a half before returning, but never really was the same player ever again due to vision loss. It’s one of the most famous injuries in the history of baseball, and lead to the improvements of bating helmets in the years to come.

⛳️ New Caddie on the Block

There’s been a lot of talk over the years of Scottie Scheffler and his caddie Ted Scott, but what happens when Scott has to take a weekend off?
In steps Michael Cromie. With Scheffler’s normal caddie out dealing with a family matter, Scheffler had to go into this weeks BMW Championship with a new man on the bag. Cromie, who usually works with Chris Kirk, was free this weekend as Kirk did not qualify for the tournament.
There’s not many relationships like golfer and caddie in the world of sports, an elite golfer is only as good as his elite caddy. When the two are separated, things can go wrong. With Scheffler and Cromie down four shots heading into the last day of the tournament, it seemed to be our of reach.
But then Cromie got to see up, close, and personal the Scottie Scheffler difference. With leader Bobby MacIntyre struggling early, Scheffler went to work taking the lead, and then trying to hold on. It was an incredible chip in on the 17th hole, the patented Scottie sealer, that gave him the win.
This will go down as the biggest financial weekend in Cromie’s career on the bag. To go along with the comeback victory, Cromie will earn $360,000 of Scottie’s winnings. Not a bad weekend for a last second fill in. In all of the big wins of Scottie’s career, Ted Scott has been there, and in arguably one of the greatest final round comebacks, it was Michael Cromie guiding Scottie.
This will be one hell of a trivia question and answer one day.
The BIG Moments

🎾 US Open Mixed Doubles to be EVENTFUL!
The Stump Short Story: With every Tennis major, there is naturally a bit of a buzz around town. But NEVER, and I mean NEVER, has the buzz revolved around Mixed Doubles. Well that’s the case this year. Today marks the start of the US Open in Flushing, Queens, and the slate of duos set for this field is star-studded. Here’s a short list of some of the pairs: (Jannik Sinner & Emma Navarro, Carlos Alcaraz & Emma Raducanu, Alexander Zverev & Belinda Bencic, Casper Ruud & Iga Swiatek, Novak Djokovic & Olga Danilovic, Frances Tiafoe & Madison Keys, Ben Shelton & Taylor Townsend, Taylor Fritz & Elena Rybakina). Well, guess that list wasn’t that short, but that’s the state of where we are. STAR STUDDED. Yes, the singles draws will be fun to watch, but this will also be something to keep an eye on for sure!
Why it Matters: Anytime stars are matched together, and we get to see more of them on center stage, there will always be headlines. There will be a $1-million prize for this draw that showcases some of the best players in the world. One little extra fun blip for you, we will have BOOTS ON THE GROUND for the US Fan Fest today in Queens and will see if anything pops up worth sharing with you all on Wednesday!

🏈 Commanders Are Shopping Brian Robinson
The Stump Short Story: Can somebody help me make some sense of all of this. Just a few months ago the Commanders became the NFL’s postseason darling and made an insane run to the NFC Championship Game. There was an emergence of their rookie QB, Jayden Daniels, and they had dynamic playmakers on both sides of the ball matched with a gutsy head coach. The Terry McLaurin thing is one story, but now reports are coming out that there are also open to getting rid of Brian Robinson Jr. Sure, he isn’t a Top 5 or 10 RB in the league, but the two headed beast between himself and Austin Ekeler was a power duo that kept defenses guessing all of last year.
Why it Matters: Any time we are close to the start of the season and we see stories like this come up, they will naturally make the headlines. On top of that, the fact that the Commanders were one of the final four teams remaining makes this even more interesting. For those of you depth chart warriors wondering, behind Austin Ekeler is seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt.
