ON THIS DAY 🗓

On this day in 1997…
The IBM created computer ‘Deep Blue’ defeats Chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov.
It was the second time the computer and Kasparov faced off against each other, and the first time a grandmaster has been defeated by a computer.

STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍

“Throwing Dirt on the Grave” They Said. It’s a Loooong Series!
I often try to stay away from the NBA Pregame shows (Other than Chuck, Shaq, Kenny, and the boys). With the NBA Playoffs spending a lot of their time on ESPN, I’ve been more in tune with what the analysts are saying about the second round series’.
Two days in a row I heard the saying, “Throwing dirt on their grave,” referring to the ‘death’ of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets were down 2-0, the Cavs only down 1-0, when the saying was used on them. I can’t sit here without telling you how WRONG I think they are.
The Denver Nuggets are a powerhouse, led by the 3x NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, and are coming off an NBA Championship and a regular season where they looked like undoubtedly one of the best in the NBA. Frankly, a 2-0 deficit in a series is meaningless to them. They are a team full of playoff experience, with extremely talented scoring threats.
I love the story of the Timberwolves as much as the next guy. I think Ant is awesome, he’s the face of the league for the next generation, but he’s also never been this deep in the playoffs, and he’s never had to beat a team like the Nuggets in a 7-game series. To think that the Nuggets were ‘dead’, is just absolute blasphemy. It honestly makes me mad.
The Cavs are a little different of a story, while they are still talented, their is an obvious star-power gap between them and the Celtics. But to claim the Cavs as dead after ONE game, is just ridiculous. The analysts went on to say “they need a prayer to win”, well it looks like God was listening. The Cavs came out in the second half and played the Celtics off the court and the fans to an early exit.
While we’ve seen how good the Celtics can be this year, we’ve also seen how bad they can be. Without Porzingis, the Cavs are eating the Celtics alive on the boards and using it to fuel big runs to keep them in games. While the status of Jarrett Allen is unknown, if they were to get him back soon, the Celtics would have a very tough time against the Cavs two-big-man lineup. Donovan Mitchell is on a mission to remind the basketball world what a star he is, while Evan Mobley and Darius Garland look to be finally finding their playoff sea-legs.
I know it’s a lot easier to write this after the Cavs and Nuggets both got a game back in the series, but it only goes to show how wrong these big time analysts can be. Not to say that I’m perfect, because I get sports takes wrong all the time, but to say that two highly talented teams are dead after one or two games, is just flat out wrong.
🎙SONG OF THE DAY
Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) - Edison Lighthouse

A classic. This is a windows down, snapping the finger, tapping the steering wheel, maybe even a little HEAD BOB?? Don’t want to go too crazy, but this song does things!

This one is pretty straight forward. Holds up your pants. That’s glue. No full moons for free. Surprised it took us this long to think of this one.
DAILY STUMPED ANSWER
A. Victoria Cougars. Sorry that this question was so tough. But we had fun with the names. Prior to 1925, the Stanley Cup was competed for by the winners of the top leagues in North America. The NHL / NHA winner would face the PCHA (Pacific Coast) / WCHA (West Coast) / WHL (Wester). Little hockey knowledge!
