STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍️

NFL: National “Fighting” League

Something must be in the water this year in the NFL…

Not sure if it’s just me or has anyone else noticed a significant uptick in fights this training camp in the NFL?

It could just be me, but the three days of fighting at the Giants and Lions joint practices combined with the FIVE fights at Seahawks practices may think differently.

I get it, I missed football too, but I’m not throwing any punches about it. So I’m going to now come up with some fun and creative reasons why they may be fighting:

  1. The Heat: it’s no secret it has been HOT this summer, and that’s true all across the United States. Perhaps the heat has gotten to some of these guys heads? Possible.

  2. The “Yo Mama” Joke is back in?: I feel like this one is pretty self-explanatory, but if the right yo mama joke was said about my mama, I’d be pretty upset too.

  3. With Less Preseason Games, Joint Practices Are More Popular: Okay, this one isn’t as fun or creative, this one is true. Since there is one less preseason games, teams have turned to joint practices with other teams. That means three or four days of practicing with another NFL team. To me, that screams FIGHT NIGHT! That’s a lot of testosterone in one small area for an extended time.

Maybe it’s a combo of all three? Perhaps? I don’t know. It just feels good to be right.

Fights are always going to happen at NFL training camps, it’s inevitable. Training Camp is basically like the modern day sports version of the hunger games. Except 90 men walk in, only 53 leave with jobs. People get desperate, frustrated, and tired. That’s a recipe for a thrown punch or two.

Quote of the Day

“As long as I can start the race, I know I can finish. You can’t outrun a dog. A dog will chase you forever.”

Quincy Hall

An ELECTRIC 400m race! And maybe even more electric of a quote!

Song of the Day

Paint

The Paper Kites

Simple song name, creative band name, a great tune. Can’t ask for much more on a Thursday!

Glue Guy of the Day

Defined: Glue Guy (Noun, Verb, Adj., etc.) - a person, thing, idea, or thought that holds together the larger group. Not the star, not the main character, but a hard hat and lunch pale type who knows its role. The GLUE of the group.

DK Metcalf’s Helmet

Been Around The Block

When DK Metcalf’s helmet woke up yesterday he had no clue what was in store. A mid practice SWING at a teammate was not on his Bingo card but no complaints from the helmet!

TRIVIA ANSWER

C. Brooklyn, NY. The Union Grounds baseball park in Brooklyn, New York opened in 1862 and is notable for being the first true ballpark. The park was built after the owner of an ice skating rink was looking for ways to increase his revenue after the ice melted. He decided to rebuild the rink as a baseball field, enclosed it with a fence, and added benches for spectators.

Since the field was an enclosed space, the owner was able to charge an admission fee and paying customers sat on the benches while non-paying customers watched from the embankments outside of the grounds.

The grounds were home to several early baseball clubs, most notably the Eckford Club of Brooklyn. The park was demolished in 1883 and there are no significant land markers indicating the area’s significance to the history of baseball.

(sorry for the long trivia, just thought it was cool!)
