Today’s Stump Story…

🏒 McDavid Reaches 1,000 Points

If you’re big into the NHL, talking more about this guy might bore you, so I apologize, but Connor McDavid just became the 4th fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points, and we’re gonna talk about it!

In 2015, the Edmonton Oilers had the first overall pick in the draft. They knew there was hype, but even they couldn’t imagine how much would be delivered from their future superstar. They selected Connor McDavid, and yesterday’s goal on a 2 on 1 fastbreak gave him point number 1,000!

He is the 99th player in NHL history to reach the 1,000-point mark, but what makes him special and worthy of all the hype is the speed of which he’s done it. He is the fourth fastest player to record the feat, only behind Gretzky, Lemieux, and Bossy. He is also the fourth-youngest player to 1,000.

Usually reserved, Connor almost got emotional on the ice last night when the crowd wouldn’t stop the ovation during the post-game interview. Even though he hasn’t brought home the big one yet, you can’t say he hasn’t tried. Just this past season the Oilers went down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals. The series was written off. His team would win three straight and force a game 7! He had an unbelievable series and would win the Finals MVP award despite being on the losing team.

He’s only 27 years old, but he has already won 5 scoring titles and 3 MVPs, it’s only a matter of time until he adds a championship to that list.

Just wanted to give some kudos to the best hockey player in the league right now!

Just for a little crazy fact of the day…McDavid just got to 1,000 points in 659 games. The Great One (Wayne Gretzky) got there in 424! That’s 245 games quicker! Unreal!

Yesterday, In a Nutshell

🏈 TNF: I know we’ve had some exciting games recently, but why does it feel like every other primetime game has been an absolute SNOOZER! This got interesting in the fourth quarter, but before that nobody really got anything going. The Eagles score 23 unanswered to end up winning the game, 26-18, over the Washington Commanders. The Eagles move to 8-2 and the Commander fall to 7-4. Saquon Barkley rushed for 146 yards and had 52 receiving yards as well! Sheesh!

🏈 NFL Injury Update heading into Friday: Chiefs place their All-Pro kicker, Harrison Butker, on injured reserve with a knee injury and he will miss at least the next four games. They added Spencer Shrader off the New York Jets’ practice squad to replace him. Dolphins all-world WR Tyreek Hill has been dealing with a wrist injury and apparently has considered surgery, but the Cheetah will continue to play without it. On the Bills front, Amari Cooper looks to be getting ready to try and suit up this week in their AFC heavyweight battle against the undefeated Chiefs.

⚾️ The Tampa Bay Rays announced yesterday that they will play their home games at Steinbrenner Field, the spring training location of the New York Yankees, for the 2025 season. Steinbrenner Field is located in northwest Tampa and will serve as home for the Rays. Their home stadium, Tropicana Field, is having the roof rebuilt from the damage of Hurricane Milton. The stadium seats 11,000 and serves as host for the Yankees’ Class A affiliate Tampa Tarpons. The Tarpons will find a new home for the 2025 season.

🏀 The tallest player in college basketball, Olivier Rioux, will redshirt this season and not appear in a game at Florida. The 7-foot-9 University of Florida freshman will sit and learn this year and still be considered a freshman next fall. Rioux was a three-star recruit out of IMG Academy but is from Quebec, Canada. He also holds a Guinness World Record for being the tallest teenager, he was 7 feet tall in the seventh grade.

⚽️ UEFA Nations League action from yesterday: In a battle of titans, Italy was able to handle Belgium thanks to an early 11th-minute goal by Sandro Tonali (Newcastle Magpie). France put forth a lackluster performance against Israel, the match ended in a goalless draw, 0-0. Greece was no match for England in their 3-0 victory. In the third and final big match of the day, Norway defeated Slovenia by a score of 4-1.

💯Top Performers:

  • 🏈 Saquon Barkley (PHI): 146 rush yards, 52 rec yards, 2 TDs!

Two writing utensils in one week?? That’s right. But this guy right here, he’s a big time hybrid. Somewhere between a pen and a sharpie, but it just writes soooo smooth.

Trivia Answer:

C. 8! Lebron has only scored less than 10 points in a game just eight times in his career. The last time he scored less than 10 points in a regular season game was January 5th, 2007. This dude just DOES not have bad games.
