THE DAILY STUMPED🔮

ON THIS DAY 🗓️
On this day in 1956…
Undefeated world heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano retires from the ring.
He remains the only heavyweight champion to retire undefeated.
STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍️
Brotherly Love Knows No Bounds!
The New England Patriots selected North Carolina Quarterback Drake Maye with the third pick in the NFL Draft. Drake is the latest in a long line of North Carolina alumni in his family, including both of his parents.
His father, Mark, was a two-year starter and team captain for the Tar Heels in 1986 and 1987. His mother, Aimee, is also an alumnus of the university. The other famous Maye would be his brother, Luke. You may recognize the name because of his stardom during the UNC Championship run in 2017, which included a legendary game-winner from Luke to send UNC to the final four. However, he may be even more famous for the viral video of him attending his 8 am class the morning after hitting the legendary shot.
So why the heck am I bringing up all of this stuff? Why does it matter? Well, Luke made a special trip for his brother for Thursday night.
Luke currently plays in Japan for the Ibaraki Robots where he averages 21 PPG and 11 RPG. The only problem is Luke is currently under contract and they’re in the middle of their season, so how is he supposed to go support his brother in Detroit on draft night?
When Maye signed his Japanese league contract, he ensured that he had a unique clause put into place. Thanks, in large part, to the help of his agents, Luke Maye was able to secure a clause that allowed him to leave Japan for Detroit to be on-hand for the 2024 NFL Draft to watch his brothers big day in person and with the whole family.
I’d surely say that Luke Maye is up for the Brother of the Year award. What a great opportunity to check in on college basketball’s former Final Four stars!
