Kelce Brothers sign $100M Contract, Dani Olmo debuts, and the Longest Match in US Open History

Yesterday we had the longest game in US Open Tennis HISTORY! 5 hours and 35 minutes! In that time alone we had a whole lot happen! The Kelce brothers signed a $100M contract with Amazon, NFL teams got their rosters down to 53, and Dani Olmo scored in his debut for Barcelona! A whole lot to talk about!

The Best Six Runs Of His Life

If youā€™re a pitcher in the MLB and you give up six runs in 1 2/3 innings, you probably wouldnā€™t be a happy camper. That wasnā€™t really the case for Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Brady Feigl.

The 33-year-old made his debut with the Pirates last night and struggled mightily, but that didnā€™t change the fact that he had finally made it to the big show after years of scratching and clawing his way up the ladder.

Feigl was an undrafted amateur free agent in the 2014 MLB Draft and signed with the Atlanta Braves. He played college baseball at Mount Saint Maryā€™s in Maryland, he spent the next 10 years bouncing around between minor league rosters and independent ball.

He spent 2014-2016 with the Braves, 2017-2019 with the Rangers, the 2020 minor league season was canceled due to COVID, 2021 he was injured, and then he pitched two seasons in the Atlantic Independent League.

The Pirates signed him to a minor league contract earlier this year and he was throwing well in Triple-A, ā€œBut I know in the back of my head, I wasnā€™t going to give up. As long as I still have the ability to do it, Iā€™m not going to give up.ā€

In 1994, Tiger Woods won the 94th US Golf Amateur Championship. He was 19 years old at the time of the victory! Canā€™t remember how the rest of his career panned out but I know he was off to a hot start!

Talking Points

šŸˆ Kelceā€™s Cash In

When the Kelce brothers started their podcast, ā€œThe New Heights Podcastā€, Iā€™m not sure they thought it would reach these heights. The two signed a deal with Amazon that is reportedly worth more than $100 million over the next three years.

The Kelce brothers began the podcast prior to the 2022 season. They discuss life as an NFL player on and off the field, as well as things like their childhood and life experiences. They also host a variety of celebrity guests.

The show has won multiple awards, including the 2024 Podcast of the Year at the iHeartPodcast Awards.

Now that older brother Jason has hung up his cleats and joined the team at ESPN, itā€™ll be interesting to see how his non-football career continues to grow!

šŸˆ Colts Are All Set With Their Draft Picks

Yesterday was the NFLā€™s cut day, final rosters are due and every team has to go from 90+ guys to a roster of 53 men to lead them into battle.

In Indianapolis, the Colts did something quite different from what weā€™ve seen from teams in the past. They cut their own draft pick. This may sound normal, of course you cut guys you draft at some point, itā€™s the nature of the beast.

But Indy cut their own 5th Round, 6th Round, and 7th Round pick from THIS YEARā€™S draft. Like, the draft that happened in April.

Itā€™s super hard to make an NFL roster, like incredibly hard. But to draft THREE guys 4 months ago and then immediately cut them before the season is wild. I donā€™t think the NFL has ever seen anything like that.

Who knows, maybe the Colts are playing Chess while the rest of us play Checkers.

šŸˆ Biggest Names Who Got Cut

CUT DAY! Here are the guys youā€™ve probably heard of who got cut yesterday!

  • Kadarius Toney, WR, Chiefs

  • Desmond Ridder, QB, Cardinals

  • Tim Patrick, WR, Broncos

  • Bailey Zappe, QB, Patriots

  • Allen Robinson, WR, Giants

  • Matt Brieda, RB, 49ers

  • Caleb Farley, DB, Titans

Now Iā€™d be shocked if a lot of these guys didnā€™t find work pretty quick, but itā€™s always crazy to see whoā€™s in and whoā€™s out!

Trivia Answer:

E. 100,000! Yup. One hundred big ones! Last year they went through around 70,000 balls but they come prepared. Each game starts with 6 fresh tennis balls which get replaced after 6 games. A LOTTTTTT of tennis balls in Flushing Meadows!
