As seen in the picture above, sometimes it is he who stays in the back that sometimes will get to bask in all the glory of a victory……Could that possibly be one of the most profound statements we’ve said here on the Stump? It very well could be! Hope everybody is doing well on this Monday! Tonight we’ve got Football Hangover, another World Series Game, MNF, and a solid basketball slate as well! Let’s do this thing!

On This Day…

🏀 On this day in 1997, the NBA hired Violet Palmer and Dee Kanter. The two became the first females to officiate a major league all-male sporting contest in the United States.

The two broke down the glass ceiling for many women to step into the NBA and eventually the NFL as officials.

🏈 Time to Jump Ship: The NY Jets Dilemma

Another rough day to be a New York Jets fan as they lose to the New England Patriots and their backup QB… is it time to blow it all up?

On paper, the New York Jets have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. I mean, the list of high-level names with high-level contracts is quite long, and the roster got even better heading into this past weekend when they got their star pass rusher, Hassan Reddick, back from his contract holdout.

The Jets fell to the Patriots, 25-22, yesterday when Rhomandre Stevenson of the Patriots scored with less than a minute to go in the game. The Jets fell to 2-6 on the year, and a Thursday night matchup with the impressive Houston Texans looming. Unfortunately for NY, the bye week isn’t coming to save them quite yet, they will have to wait until late November for that.

Is it time to jump ship? Well, you can’t fire your interim head coach, right? Right…? You can’t trade away your star QB, you can’t trade away your star WR(s), so where do you go from here?

This team is in trouble. The franchise is all-in, and they just aren’t seeing the results they thought they would. As coach Jeff Ulbrich put it after their loss, “This is a moment of darkness”. Yep, that about sums it up.

The offense has been a real issue, not scoring more than 24 points all season. The WR issue was supposed to be resolved when they traded for Davante Adams, but there hasn’t been a true breakout yet from him. It’s still early, but the clock is ticking, and it’s ticking FAST for the Jets.

Yesterday, In a Nutshell

🏈 Commanders and Jayden Daniels WIN on last-second HAIL MARY against Chicago Bears and Caleb WIlliams! Daniels takes matchup one of the top two picks of the 2024 NFL Draft! It was a lot scoring game until the last 5 minutes but an ending for the AGES!

🏈 CLEVEEELANDDDD! Unbelievable! Absolutely unbelievable! Jameis Winston started in what everybody said was a dumpster fire and beat possibly the best team in football! He threw for 300 yards and 3 TDs to hand the Baltimore Ravens their 3rd loss of the season! Guts. Glory. Winston. Browns 29. Ravens 24.

🏈 Do any of these teams have hope? Yesterday the Jets, Cowboys, and Bengals all suffered losses to add to their losing records! Not a fun time for any of those squads! Do any of them have the second-half juice to get something going?

🏀 Steph Curry suffered a ‘mild ankle sprain’ in the third quarter of the Warriors game against the Clippers. He came back in for a short stint in the fourth quarter that did not look great for his ankle. The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season against the Clippers and move to 2-1.

💯Top Performers:

  • 🏀 Tyrese Maxey (PHI) - 44 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists

  • 🏈 Jameis Winston (CLE) - 334 yards, 3 TDs, hope to millions of Browns fans!

  • 🏈 Detroit Lions (NFL) - Put up 52 points!!! NFC Best 6-1 record!

  • 🏀 SGA (OKC) - 35 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists

Trivia Answer:

E. Wilt Chamberlin! Chamberlin was the first to ever do it in his 1959-60 rookie season, he averaged 37 points and 27 rebounds per game. The only other player to do it was Wes Unseld in 1968-69.
