What Caught Our Eye👀

STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍️

From No. 1 Overall to Rock Bottom

The story of Jamarcus Russell didn’t just stop after being a No. 1 pick bust, it’s gotten worse.

When you’re the number one pick in the NFL there is a lot of pressure that comes with that: extremely high expectations, people digging in your pockets, and the weight of a million to billion dollar franchise on your shoulders. Some people just can’t take it. Jamarcus Russell was one of the people who just couldn’t handle it.

Russell may be infamous as the biggest draft bust in NFL history after being selected with the first overall pick in 2007 by the Oakland Raiders. He barely played three seasons in the NFL before being released by the Raiders and never resigning in the NFL again.

Russell made headlines this past week after he was fired as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama. A lawsuit was presented to Russell accusing him of taking a $74,000 check meant as a donation to the school.

Russell solicited the check from a local business owner for the purpose of purchasing weight room equipment. The school allegedly never received the check, and Russell reportedly deposited it in a credit union and promptly withdrew $55,000 of it.

In addition to being fired as a coach, Russell is no longer allowed to be on the schools campus.

This is a really sad story to come out of the Russell camp, for a man who has already struggled to stay on the right side of the news headlines. It also understates the need for athletes to have lives beyond the field or playing surface. This means a strong education, a strong personal life, among other things.

Russell is once again on the wrong side of the news, and officially banned from his own alma mater. He now owes $74,000 to his school, as well. I’m not really quite sure where Russell goes from here, but he’s got some stuff to figure out.

Quote of the Day

“Doubt is the father of invention.“

Ambrose Bierce

Ambrose is an elite name. This is an elite quote. When someone doubts you, let it motivate you to create, inspire, and grow.

Song of the Day

Summertime

Kenny Chesney

Nothing like a classic KENNY on Sunday! It does not get much better than this. Throw this on, sit back, enjoy a cold beverage of choice. Fourth of July loading…

Glue Guy of the Day

Defined: Glue Guy (Noun, Verb, Adj., etc.) - a person, thing, idea, or thought that holds together the larger group. Not the star, not the main character, but a hard hat and lunch pale type who knows its role. The GLUE of the group.

Guy Who Brings out New Guitars

Bands

You know the guys or girls who bring out the new instruments (usually guitar) to the musicians on stage? These guys and gals are all-time GLUE! I’m not sure what they are called but man they do the gritty behind the scenes work to make sure those concerts are the best possible.
