Irish Keep Fighting
The final 4 in College Football are set!
Not just trying to throw a buzzword in here, but it looks like we may have a CONUNDRUM on our hands! They changed up the College Football Playoff, and this year ALL FOUR TEAMS with a first-round bye lost their first matchup! Quite a sight in the updated bracket! Hope everybody’s January has gotten off to a great start. Let’s STUMP!
Today’s Trivia🧠
In 2022, which NFL team mounted a 33-point comeback in the second half to complete the largest comeback win in NFL history?History: The QB who led the comeback is no longer on the team and recently got benched on his new team.. |
(answer at the bottom of the Stump)
On This Day…
🏈 On this day in 1993, Buffalo Bills QB Frank Reich leads a 32-point comeback to defeat the Houston Oilers 41-38 in overtime in the first round of the playoffs.
This is still to this day the largest playoff comeback in NFL history. Imagine the Patriots 28-point comeback against the Falcons, but make it 32 and in Buffalo in the freezing cold.
Today’s Stump Story…
🍀 Grit Defined: Irish Keep Fighting
Some would say that the Irish are a lucky bunch, but there is absolutely nothing lucky about this group.
Notre Dame came into this game fighting the same narrative they have been hearing almost every year in their recent era, “they can’t hang with the big dogs”. Well, those people will be sure to quiet their hate from now on.
Not only did Notre Dame come to play, they came to dominate. Sure, this Georgia team wasn’t necessarily as talented as the teams that won National Championships in recent years, but they are still the SEC Champions and beat a national semifinalist in Texas twice this season. To all the people who say that they got an easy road with Indiana and Georgia, stop. They earned their spot in the national semifinal.
They were better than Georgia in all three aspects of the game: offense, defense, special teams. They took the air out of the building early by matching the intensity of the Bulldogs and going toe-to-toe with champions of the best conference in college football. When the game really changed was the start of the second half. Even though Notre Dame got a late first-half touchdown thanks to a turnover by Georgia, that wasn’t when the game was really over.
Notre Dame took the second half kick off back to the house, and good old Mr. Momentum shifted for good in favor of the Fighting Irish. Georgia responded with a touchdown but Notre Dame sat on the football for the rest of the game. A fourth quarter masterclass in playing calling and decision making by Marcus Freeman and his coaching staff left Georgia looking for answers.
Not only does this team talent, they believe, they fight, and they are growing more and more confident every day. Look out for the Irish.
Quick Hitters
🏈 Gator Bowl: We had (14) Ole Miss up against Duke and it was an absolute bloodbath! This thing was all Ole Miss all the way! QB Jaxson Dart went absolutely NUCLEAR throwing for 404 yards and 4 TDs, and tacking on 43 yards on the ground! No matter how many teams make the College Football Playoff, there will ALWAYS be teams that are angry that they got snubbed. This year one of those teams was Ole Miss, and sadly for Duke, they took their anger out on them!
🏈 NFL Pro Bowl Rosters Released: I’ll link the full rosters here, but it was definitely another season of strong NFL individual performers worthy of making the roster. The most shocking of the snubs was Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who failed to make the team for the first time since taking over as starter. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow were the AFC QBs selected. Some other notable players were the rookies selected: Jayden Daniels, Brock Bowers, and Jared Verse. Daniels will join Jared Goff and Sam Darnold as the NFCs QBs. The Ravens are sending nine players, the most of any team, with the Lions not far behind with 7 players represented. The Dolphins, Titans, and Saints are the only teams not represented on the rosters.
🏀 United States international soccer star, Christian Pulisic, is expected to make his return to the pitch today in AC Milan’s Italian Super Cup semifinals against Juventus. Pulisic has missed about a month since tearing a muscle in his right calf nearly a month ago. Pulisic’s US and Milan teammate, Yunus Musah, will also make his return. Juventus will feature Timothy Weah and Weston McKennie, which could make for four US players on the field at once.

Trivia Answer:
C. Minnesota Vikings! Does anybody else remember this weird Saturday game on NFL Network?! I sure do. It was one of the ugliest blowouts of all time and then KIRKO CHAINZ decided to have a legacy game! 33-0 comeback is absolutely nuts!
