Have you ever wondered how the Stanley Cup got its name? Well, here you go:
It was on this day in 1892 that Frederick Arthur Stanley, Lord Stanley of Preston, commissioned a trophy for Canada’s top amateur hockey club. The trophy was won first by the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association. In 1926, the Cup became the exclusive championship trophy of the NHL and has been ever since. It is the premier hockey trophy in the world.

Two things we can discuss from the Golf World!
Yesterday at 9:00 AM ET, we had a three-hole aggregate playoff between the steady Rory McIlroy and a recently surging JJ Spaun. It was less than 24 hours after the Sunday finish where Spaun missed the winning putt on 18 by just a few inches.
Well, the playoff just went to show that golf can be brutal when it comes to those inches. It was as windy as conditions had been all week, and the last three holes at TPC Sawgrass and grueling in the wind. The 17th features an island green, after a great shot by Rory, Spaun ended up in the splash zone and walked out of there with a triple-bogey.
Although not the finish he wanted, this solidified that JJ Spaun is for real, after he just got his third Top 3 finish of the young season, becoming the first player to do this.
Rory on the other hand, won his second Players Championship and got his second win of the season. He’s playing some of the best golf he has in a really long time. Maybe this year he wins the big one!
This is a perfect segway into our DOUBLE-DIP!
You know us, we love talking about the behind-the-scenes crews who don’t get the highlights they deserve. Well, we want to give a shoutout to a crew. We want to give a shoutout to the Masters Social Media Team!
It isn’t talked about enough but social media teams are instrumental in fan engagement and the narrative that is put out from a team. They are behind the scenes and don’t get a lot of credit when they are doing a ton of work. Now that the Players Championship ended, the Masters released a video on social media regarding their tournament. Man. It was incredible! Definitely worth a watch. Check it out RIGHT HERE! Must Watch!
That’s all for our golf double-dip!

🏀 PG Shut Down for Rest of Season
I know technically the 76ers only shut Paul George down for the rest of the regular season, but do we really think this team is going to make the playoffs? The 76ers are currently sitting five games back of the last play in spot in the Eastern Conference, but are now playing without Joel Embiid and Paul George, leaving just Tyrese Maxey to lead the squad. This has been a season of nightmares for the 76ers, and I honestly can’t see it getting any better any time soon.
đź« Bad Look for the NIT
The University of South Alabama basketball program is rightfully upset after the NIT rescinded the program’s offer late Sunday night. South Alabama had accepted an offer into the NIT because UC Riverside declined its invitation to the tournament due to a previous commitment with the College Basketball Invitational. A few hours later, the NIT reached an agreement to get UC Riverside in, pushing out South Alabama. Head coach Richie Riley had to turn around and tell his team they wouldn’t be going to the NIT anymore. Woof. That’s pretty bad.
🔥 Colorado Wants Spring Game Matchup
Deion Sanders went out yesterday and said that the NCAA should consider borrowing the NFL model of offseason ball. Sanders wants to play a spring game against another team this offseason, as well as host some joint practices. It didn’t take long for another team to take the bait, as Syracuse head coach Fran Brown posted on X that the Orange should “come to Boulder for 3 days.” This comes at a time when a lot of college programs are going away from the Spring Football model, either canceling practice altogether or turning the game into some sort of skills competition. Many coaches are expressing concerns that other teams are scouting their players in the scrimmage and trying to poach them. Deion doesn’t care about all that though, he says that if that’s happening, that kid is already gone.
🏀 Rose Win Unrivaled’s First Title
The Rose defeated Vinyl in the Unrivaled’s first championship game, capping the inaugural season of the women’s 3-on-3 basketball league. Part of the league’s main mission was to compensate their players more than almost any other professional women’s sports league, which includes a $50,000 bonus for each player on the championship-winning team. The league had an eight-week regular season in Miami that featured six teams with 36 total players. Las Vegas Aces veteran guard Chelsea Gray was named finals MVP for her 18-point, 8-assist performance. Azura Stevens, the former UConn big, had 19 points and 18 rebounds, as well.
