6/4/25 Glue OTD: The Indiana Pacers Flight Crew
In the world of sports, nothing seems to really blow up social media for no apparent reason more than a team in a big moment with a flight delay. That is exactly what happened yesterday for the Indiana Pacers. This squad waited 25-years to make it back to the NBA Finals, but unfortunately for them, they’d wait a few more on the tarmac.
Nothing is worse than being seated on a plane and, boom, you hear the captain come on the loud speakers, “ladies and gentlemen we’re going to be in a little bit of a holding pattern, here”. Even more terrifying is having to be rerouted mid-flight to avoid some severe weather.
OKC really brought the Thunder early to the Pacers front door, or front nose of the plane. The flight was redirected to Tulsa, OK, before sitting on the tarmac, refueling, and taking quite a round-about way around some more Thunder before landing in Oklahoma City just under 4 hours behind schedule.
Here I am, to stand up on both feet, straight back, hands clapping, to honor the flight crew with the honor of Glue Guy of the Day. Without their quick-thinking, high IQ moves mid-air, there might not be an NBA Finals in the coming days. They avoided heavy fain, thunder and lightning, and even some tornado spotting’s in Oklahoma to bring the Pacers safely to the NBA Finals.

Yesterday’s Moments

😲 Knicks Fire Head Man
The Stump Short Story: Well, this was an absolute shocker. The New York Knicks announced yesterday the firing of head coach Tom Thibodeau. This comes after a disappointing Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers. Thibs led the Knicks to their first back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time since 1995, and their first conference finals in 25 years.
Why it Matters: The reason this is so interesting is because Thibs was by far the most successful coach the franchise has seen in decades, and took the franchise to heights that many before him were unable to do. This feels like a move in a different ideological direction. Thibs was known for playing his starters extreme minutes throughout the season, even as the NBA moves to a more “load management” style. Was this the Knicks saying they weren’t sure his style was durable? It very much could be. Updates on the coaching search to come.
🏀 Suns in “Aggressive Pursuit” of Durant Deal
The Stump Short Story: Would it be crazy to say the KD era in Phoenix was worse than the Brooklyn era? For some reason the Booker-Durant-Beal trio didn’t really pan out the way it could have. There were injuries involved, but even them for the Suns to have missed the play-in this year was disappointing for all parties.
Now The Athletic’s Kelly Iko reports that Phoenix has officially reached the ‘all gas no breaks’ time period of this era. They are looking for possible landing spots for the former MVP. With Durant and Giannis being the two biggest names in new landing spot talks, it seems as if we are in for some big splashes very soon!
Why it Matters: Despite being 36-years old, KD can still drop 25 points in his sleep. This past season he averaged 27, 6, and 4 across 62 games, wherever he goes he will be a game-changer.
