It feels like it’s been 3 weeks since the last MLB playoff game! That was a long 4 day break! The World Series begins today it is set up for absolute FIREWORKS between the Yankees and Dodgers! Separately we had some defiant NBA wins last night, a wild TNF Rams win, and 3 PICK SIXES for Pittsburgh football! Thanks for starting your Friday with us over here at the Stump!

⚾ On this day in 1981, we had a SCUFFLE in the baseball world! Who could it have been? A pitcher? Maybe a slide into second base? A manager and an umpire? Nope. None of the above.

In a hotel elevator, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner got into it with 2 youths after they swung a bottle at him! The 2 in the elevator…Dodgers fans amidst a Yankees-Dodgers World Series!!! What fireworks are we in for this year?

We’ve got an absolute showdown in this year’s Fall Classic! There’s a lot of history between the Yankees and Dodgers, let’s take a look at some of it!

It’s been 43 years. 43 years since the Yankees and the Dodgers met up in the World Series. It was 1981 when the two clashed in what was a Dodgers win in 6 games. That was the jaw-dropping 12th time that the matchup happened! 7 of them happened when it was still a Subway Series (Brooklyn Dodgers) from 1941 to 1956.

Some of the greatest baseball players of all time have partaken in this series. In an interview, Yankee great Reggie Jackson went off to list some of the greats, “Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford…Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella.” There was Sandy Koufax, who helped the Dodgers get the sweep in ‘63.

They then played three times in the span of 5 years between ‘77 and ‘81, the Yankees winning two out of the 3.

Because we haven’t gotten this matchup in so long, it’s hard to really see this for what it is, one of the greatest rivalries in Baseball. There’s Lakers-Celtics in basketball. There’s Marvel and DC for you comic fans. There’s medium and medium well. There are a lot of rivalries, this one is one of the biggest.

We talked about the old stars, but there are plenty of new ones. We’ve got the BEASTS in New York of Jusge, Soto, and Stanton. And then we’ve got more BEASTS in LA with Shohei, Mookie Betts, and all of the Hernandez’s!

All of this jibbering just to say that we’ve got game 1 on tonight, and it’s going to be popcorn worthy! If you’re looking for something to do at 8:08 PM ET tonight, turn this game on and be part of history 43 years in the making.

🏈 TNF: Math equation for you: Puka back + Cooper back = Rams WIN! What a win for the LA Rams! They defeated the Vikings, 30-20! Puka had 106 yards, and Cooper Kupp had 51 and a TD! These guys are dynamic, and they change the entire trajectory of the Rams! In a very weird NFC West, if this team gets hot despite still sitting here with a losing record (3-4), they can definitely make the postseason!

🏀 NBA on TNT Double-Header: The night started with a Klay Thompson debut for the Dallas Mavericks against the San Antonio Spurs. Klay hit 6 threes and Luka had a near triple-double in a 120-109 Mavs WIN! In the nightcap, the OKC Thunder picked up right where they left off. Behind good performances from SGA and Chet Holmgren, they handled the Denver Nuggets, 102-87. Jokic had his first triple-double of the young season in the loss.

🏈 Two Thursday night blowouts across College Football. Old Dominion defeated Georgia Southern, 47-19. And (19) Pittsburgh defeated Syracuse, 41-13, with the help of not one, not two, BUT THREE PICK SIXES! Tough night for the Orange!

🏀 Two days after calling for Julius Randle’s head, T’Wolves fans have backed off a little bit. Randle led the team with 33 points in a last-second win against the Sacramento Kings. Ant Edwards had 32 and Stump HERO Naz Reid had 19 and 13 off the bench!

🏒 In a Panthers win, Sergei Bobrovsky became the 14th goalkeeper in NHL history to win 400 career games! And on top of that, he is the fastest to reach this mark (707 games played).
