👏 Before Jackie, There Was Moses

We’ve all heard the name Jackie Robinson, but without some guys before him, there would be no Jackie Robinson. Jackie was the first to do so in modern Major League Baseball, but long before Jackie came a guy name Moses.
On this day in 1884, Moses Fleetwood Walker became the first Black player to suit up and play in a major league baseball game when he joined the Toledo Blue Stockings. The Blue Stockings were in the American Association, one of the two major leagues at the time. Fleet, as they called him, was a catcher and played in 42 games. He was the last black player in the league until Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

Lakers-Timberwolves
🔵 Timberwolves Advance Past Lakers

What a series! This one was unbelievable.
The Lakers are out! Luka Doncic and LeBron James will not be making it out of the first round in their first postseason together! Why? Because of the postseason dreamkillers! The Minnesota Timberwolves. Last year they went through Phoenix and Denver, this year their journey just went straight through the Lakers.
In a matchup with so many stars, who was the star amongst stars last night? None other than RUDY GOBERT! Yeah, I can’t believe I’m saying that either. Rudy ended with a playoff career high 27 points and 24 rebounds, on an insane 12/15 shooting. The Lakers and JJ Reddick said that they wouldn’t be playing Jaxson Hayes, so it was an open basket for Rudy all night.
Neither Luka or LeBron were efficient for LA last night. Luka ended with 28 going 7/18 from the field, and LeBron ended with 22, on 9/21 from the field. It was Rui Hachimura who really kept them in this game with his 23 points and 5 very timely threes.
The Timberwolves advance despite ANTMAN going 0/11 from three last night. They now await the winner of the Warriors-Rockets series. No disrespect to the Rockets, but Timberwoves-Warriors would be the stuff dreams are made of.
One thing I’ll say about LA is this, they seemed to lack juice yesterday. The players, the fans, and bench, everybody just seemed to be playing like they were down 3-1 and things were over. They played hard, but they weren’t playing with their hair on fire, and that’s what you need to stay alive in the postseason. They will no doubt regroup and be back next year, but man are they going to hear it these next few days. Minnesota moves on!

🏀 NBA Playoffs Review
Rockets def. Warriors, 131-116 (GSW lead series 3-2): This one was a doozy. The Warriors came out flat on both sides of the ball, and were down 16 after just the first quarter. Nothing got better in the second as they took a 27 point deficit into the half. Steph had 13 and Jimmy had 8, things just weren’t clicking. The crazy thing was this. Once Steve Kerr played his bench unit, like his DEEP bench unit, they started to show some actual life. The lead went from 30 all the way down to 12 with 4 minutes to play. It was unreal stuff! It was Pat Spencer, Moses Moody, and Kevin Knox who led the charge against the Rockets bench, and then even the Rockets starting five! That being said, the Rockets won a MUST-WIN. We head back to the Chase Center!
Timberwolves def. Lakers 103-96 (MIN WIN SERIES 4-1): You want to talk about things that were not on my bingo card, that would be this series ending 4-1! Full story above!
🏆️ Hawks Dyson Daniels wins Most Improved Player
This award was down to three. It was between Daniels, Cade Cunningham (DET), and Ivica Zubac (LAC) it was the steal king from Australia who took it home.
If you didn’t get to watch a whole lot of Atlanta Hawks basketball this year, I can’t blame you, they didn’t get a whole lot of primetime slots. We all know Trae Young, but the third year man Dyson Daniels was an absolute piece for them all season long. Known for his defensive efforts (led the league with 3.0 steals per game), he had career-highs in points (14.1), rebounds (5.9), and assists (4.4). Yeah, increases in all of those will just about do it! Congrats to Daniels and the Hawks.
🟡 🟢 Tyrese Haliburton Dad Drama
This was the talk of the town for the last 36 hours. At the end of the Pacers-Bucks Game 5, Haliburton’s dad came onto the court and started waving a towel in Giannis’ face, everybody was all over this.
And honestly, for good reason, I’m all for fans celebrating when their team wins, but come on now, parents storming the court and then taunting the other team? Let’s figure it out here. I think the best part of all of this was Giannis on the podium after the game. He didn’t whine, he didn’t say nasty things about Haliburton, he just said it how it is. Fans are just fans, and they have to stay on the sideline. That may have been Giannis’ last moment in a Bucks jersey, with a taunt from Haliburton’s dad. Not right.
