🏀 Pete Rose Swipes Three at 39

Pete Rose may be one of the most electric ball players to ever step on the diamond, and he certainly added to his case for that distinction with his performance in 1980. Also, it’s where we get this epic photo that is so synonymous with Rose.
On this day in 1980, Philadelphia Phillies Pete Rose steals second, third, and home in the same inning. This, at any point in your career, would be impressive. But Pete did it at the spry age of 39 years old. My knees hurt at 25, and this guy did it with 14 years on me. Wow.

Surgery or Retire?
🏈 Saints QB Derek Carr Hangs it Up

There comes a point in most professional athlete’s career, is the continued toll on the body worth it? In the case of Derek Carr, he decided yesterday to hang it up.
Following a season full of injuries, which included a fracture in his non-throwing hand and a concussion that forced him to miss a significant chunk of the season, Carr went into the offseason hoping for a fresh start in 2025. But in late March, Carr experienced pain in his throwing shoulder while trying to ramp up his throwing to prepare for the demands of a NFL season.
The Saints revealed that Carr had a labral tear and degenerative rotator cuff damage, an injury that would require significant surgery and recovery time. So much time, in fact, that it would put the 2025 season in jeopardy. Following some time mulling his options, Carr decided his best path forward would be to retire.
The 34-year-old spent 11 years in the NFL, nine of which were with the Raiders franchise. Carr joined New Orleans in the 2023 offseason, signing a four-year, $180M contract. He retires with a 77-92 record as a starter, completing 65% of his passes for 41,245 yards, 257 touchdowns, and 112 interceptions.
This brings to the forefront a sad reality of professional sports, sometimes the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Players prioritizing their health and long term wellness has become something that’s relatively more popular as of late as more data and research come out about the long term effects the strain of playing football has on your body. Carr was an interesting QB in the NFL, never really cracking the top of the league in talent, but was always towards the top in grit, toughness, and passion. Carr, who spent a long time playing on Raiders teams that were void of elite talent, always played with his emotions on his sleeve, a real warrior.
As far as where the Saints go next at QB, head coach Kellen Moore came out and said that all three of the current QBs in the locker room will get a chance. Those being this years second round pick Tyler Shough, 2024 pick Spencer Rattler, and 2023 pick Jake Haener. One would think it is Shough’s job to loose, given his recent selection, but then again, who knows.

🏀 Celtics Explode to Big Win
It was only a matter of time before the Boston Celtics remembered they are the defending NBA Champions. Last night, they came to in the worlds biggest entertainment venue.
I can’t really figure out what it is about this Boston Celtics team, but they just hate playing in front of their home fans. They look like a different team on the road, and that showed last night in New York City. The Celtics broke out of their cold streak behind the three point arc, burying 20 three’s en route to a massive blowout win over the Knicks. Jayson Tatum, who came into the game shooting 29% in the series, had a little more life to him but it wasn’t quite what we’re used to seeing from him. He had 22 points, but shot just 8-of-20. Payton Pritchard was really the man who turned it on for the Celtics, shooting 5-of-10 from three and pouring in 23 points off the bench. He was the sparkplug the team needed and provided elite energy. The ageless man, Al Horford, was also strong for the C’s, providing elite defense on KAT and adding in 15 points to go along with 9 rebounds. The Knicks got their normal scoring performance from Jalen Brunson, who had 27 points, but was inefficient and got a lot of points at the line. OG Anunoby was, for lack of a better term, nowhere to be found. He only managed two points. The Knicks look to rebound in Game 4, while the Celtics hope to even the series.
🏀 T’Wolves def. Warriors, Go Up 2-1!
The Warriors used their home turf to fight til the very end, but even then without their fearless leader the Timberwolves were too much for them to handle down the stretch! Timberwolves 102. Warriors 97.
Minnesota was playing from a few behind the whole game, but it never seemed like they were out of it. The Warriors, led by Jimmy Butler (33) and Jonathan Kuminga (30) gave it all they had. Buddy Hield contributed with 14 but that was the extent of the Warriors who scored in double digits. ANT-MAN led the way with 36 points for the Wolves and really turned in on in the second half. Julius Randle had a 24-10-12 triple-double. It was made shots and missed shots down the stretch that was the difference, the way it usually goes.
Game 4 will be on Monday night in really a must win situation for Golden State, you don’t want to go back to Minnesota without Steph Curry down 3-1. Jimmy had 33 yesterday and you saw playoff Jimmy start to come out. Don’t be shocked if the cape fully comes out in Game 4 and we see a 40-burger for JB! Just throwing that out there into the universe. We’ll bookmark this!
⛳️ Two Hefty Gentleman Atop Leaderboard
This is no slight, I love a guy on the thicker end who can really hit the hell out of a golf ball. So if you’re like me, you’re really going to like this final pairing on Sunday at the Truist Championship.
Amidst the windy conditions the top of the leaderboard struggled to put together some really low scores, but the guys who were patient prevailed. Sepp Straka and Shane Lowry, who posted a 66 and 67, respectively, will be the last two to tee off tomorrow as they head into the day with a shared lead at -14. Both have been steady all week, posting 3-under scores or better all three days. Yesterday’s leader, Keith Mitchell, struggled all day to get a birdie to drop and finished with a one-over score of 71, he’s three back of the leaders. Justin Thomas, who is suddenly playing some really inspired golf, is the other guy 3-back off the lead after a solid Saturday. The other golfer to watch is Hideki Matsuyama, who benefitted from nice weather in the morning, shot a 7-under to climb 28 sports in the leaderboard for solo 5th place and 5 shots off the lead. Sepp and Shane are two of the more fun players to watch in golf, as they both show emotion and are hungry for a big win on the PGA Tour.
