ON THIS DAY🗓️

On this day in 1989…

“The Great One”, Wayne Gretzky, wins his 9th Hart Trophy (NHL MVP) in 10 years. I guess he was before my time but man is this impressive. No wonder everyone calls him “the great one”.

The player with the second-most Hart trophies is Gordie Howe, who ended his career with 9!

What Caught Our Eye👀

STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍️

Principal Engineer to the Rescue for America!

The Americans Pull Off a SHOCKING STUMPSET thanks to the heroics of a Engineer living in the Bay Area!

There was a lot to go down yesterday in the sports world, a shocking game one of the NBA finals, Dan Hurley potentially going to the NBA, and even the first round from one of the most entertaining tournaments on the PGA circuit. The normal newsletter would highlight all of those, but you’re going to form your own opinion on it anyways, so why waste all of our times.

Instead, I’m gonna let you in on a MAJOR STUMPSET that went under the radar in the sporting world. Not because the match wasn’t a big deal, that’s far from the truth, but because it comes from a sport that us Americans aren’t as informed on.

That’s right, I’m heading to the world of Cricket. Not only is it Cricket, it’s the biggest dang tournament in the world, and it’s happening right under our noses. Remember the iconic line from when a gritty team of young Americans went against a traditional powerhouse in a sport in a world tournament? The one that goes: “do you believe in miracles?!”? Are you catching my drift? It’s happened again.

The Cricket T20 World Cup is taking place in America, and the red, white, and blue boys pulled of an epic STUMPSET yesterday. In a super over match (overtime in Cricket) the Americans defeated the #2 ranked country in the world, Pakistan. To make it even more special, it took place in Dallas in front of some red-blooded Americans.

After American put up 19 in their half of the super over, the Americans sent Saurabh Netravalker out as their final bowler (pitcher equivalent in cricket) to try and hold off Pakistan. Netravalker held Pakistan to 13 runs, and the Americans, the 18th best in the world, were victorious.

This is the USA’s second win EVER in the T20 World Cup, while Pakistan has one of the richest Cricket histories in the world, including a runner-up finish in the last World Cup. Netravalker, the newest American Hero, hasn’t quite YET quit his day job, as his LinkedIn shows he’s a Principle Engineer at Oracle.

I’m not sure what sort of wealth an American Cricket Hero can accumulate, but I sure hope this guy never has to buy a drink in a cricket-friendly bar ever again.

JUICE STATION🧃

Quote of the Day

Maybe I'm not perfect, but I'm pretty good and I can play like this and I can definitely add to this team.

Kristaps Porzingis

(Boston Celtics)

KP was a man amongst boys last night in Game 1. He was a factor on both sides of the ball and will be the X-FACTOR in this series! All humility on the podium after the game!

Song of the Day

Mr. Blue Sky

Electric Light Orchestra

Whether you know this from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 or just from your vast knowledge of music, congrats on knowing this one, it’s a good one!

Glue Guy of the Day

Defined: Glue Guy (Noun, Verb, Adj., etc.) - a person, thing, idea, or thought that holds together the larger group. Not the star, not the main character, but a hard hat and lunch pale type who knows its role. The GLUE of the group.

Mike Breen

(NBA Commentator)

What a treat to have Mike Breen calling the Finals! Famous for his “BANGGG” call, he brings juice to the game like none other!

TRIVIA ANSWER

D. 48! To break the record, Charlie Condon would have to hit 15 more home runs the rest of the season. However, Pete’s record 48 home runs came in 75 games! Condon has only played in 50!
