STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍️

College Football Top 25: It’s Happening!

The release of the first AP Top 25 signals the season is on the horizon, and boy is it exciting!

I’m not one who’s big on rankings, especially not a rankings that comes out before even a single game is played, but I always think it’s interesting to take a quick peek at them.

The Georgia Bulldogs enter the year as the number one team in the country for the second year in a row and received 46 first-place vote. The new-look Ohio State Buckeyes came in second with a total of 16 first-place votes. The top five is rounded out by the Oregon Ducks, the Texas Longhorns, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The defending National Champion, the Michigan Wolverines, received the lowest ranking for a defending champ since Auburn in 2011. Before that, it was Colorado in 1991. Yeesh.

The team Michigan defeated, the Washington Huskies, become the first team in the CFP era to reach the playoff and then start the next season UNRANKED!

It’s almost all the familiar faces in the top 25, but it’s nice to see Arizona and Kansas at No. 21 and 22, respectively.

There isn’t a single non power conference team in the top 25, which I personally think is gross. This will change, and quickly. Look out for Boise State, Memphis, Liberty, App. St, JMU, UTSA, and some other schools to push for the Top 25 early in the year.

Quote of the Day

“I don’t want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be Kobe Bryant.”

Kobe Bryant

Is it obvious that Kobe Bryant said this one? I wasn’t sure.

Song of the Day

Life is a Highway

Rascal Flatts

This is an all-time classic for long car rides. No pun intended.

Glue Guy of the Day

Defined: Glue Guy (Noun, Verb, Adj., etc.) - a person, thing, idea, or thought that holds together the larger group. Not the star, not the main character, but a hard hat and lunch pale type who knows its role. The GLUE of the group.

Knowshon Moreno

The long lost Broncos running back.

The throwback of a lifetime. He was a thrill to watch at Georgia and with the Broncos.

Plus, I hear he’s quite the real estate agent now.

TRIVIA ANSWER

C. 2008 in Beijing! The Beijing games set the record for highest global viewership with an estimated 4.7 billion people, an estimated 800 million more than the next highest (2004 in Athens).

Despite Beijing’s record for global viewership, the 1996 games in Atlanta actually holds the most U.S. viewership at 33.1 million people.
