Chiefs Win By A Toe

Chiefs Win Opening Game, Jessica Pegula Advances to US Open Final, and What is Happening with the METS?

What a start! The NFL kicked off with a BANG last night as the Chiefs defeated the Ravens 27-20. Football is so back! It came down to the very last play! Get your long-term popcorn ready because we are in for a fun couple of months! In other news Jessica Pegula had one of the GRITTIEST wins I’ve ever seen on a Tennis court last night! She’s on to the US Open Finals!

🚨 Here’s yesterday's Nighttime Recap!

Stump Story of the Day

🏈 Why Football? A breakdown.

Why football? While Europe has dedicated the majority of its sports craze to the other football, the United States has taken on its own fandom of American football to the next level.

Why football? A naturally violent sport, football has allowed men, and more recently women, to express their emotions in a loosely judged way. Basically, football has allowed humans to get out their “wild side” as there has been much more domestication in the world.

So why football? For the fans, football has allowed the Average Joe to invest in something that they may not be able to do themselves. We can’t all be Ray Lewis. But we can all be Joe Schmo who watches Ray Lewis. It’s tradition, something we grew up on. The team our parents loved, and their parents loved. The team we married into. The team we have some odd connection to.

Why football? Because for some reason, even when we are stressed out of our minds watching the game, we are at peace. Despite our high blood pressure and increasing beats per minute, there’s no place we’d rather be.

Why football? Football is American. We created it, it means a little extra to us. We teach our children, our grandchildren, our sons, our daughters, our cousins, anyone we can. Everyone has an opinion on it. No matter how much they really know.

Why football? It’s art. It’s poetry in motion. It’s us.

Today’s Trivia🧠

  • A. Cleveland Browns

  • B. Indianapolis Colts

  • C. Arizona Cardinals

  • D. Seattle Seahawks

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

In 1995, Cal Ripken Jr breaks the record nobody thought would ever be broke, Lou Gehrig’s consecutive game streak. When Ripken Jr took the field that day, he was playing his 2,131st straight game. The record stood for 56 years.

Ripken continued his streak until 2,632 games, more than 16 years.

🏈 NFL Kickoff Recap! Chiefs Ravens!

WHAT AN OPENER! Helluva game between the Chiefs and the Ravens! The Chiefs got the win 27-20 to start their championship defense! Here are some key takeaways from last night’s game…

  • The Chiefs now have another weapon in Xavier Worthy! The kid’s first touch in the NFL was a Touchdown! Just for good measure, he tacked on another one in the 3rd quarter.

  • Isaiah Likely looked like a top-5 TE in the league. 9 receptions, 111 yards, and a grown man TD. The chemistry that he started to build with Lamar Jackson last season hasn’t seemed to lose a step! And anybody see him PANCAKE George Karlaftis?

  • The Chiefs are still the Chiefs. Obviously. They are the best team in the league and they find ways to win big games. Are they going to lose some silly games to the Chargers or Broncos this year? Probably. But they are going to win enough games to get into the playoffs and then we know what happens from there. Let’s see who can stop them!

⚾️ M-E-T-S METS METS METS!

The MLB season has been filled with a lot of storylines this year. But mostly the mainstream ones. Shohei is ridiculous, ‘Who are the Yankees?’, the White Sox suck, but can we talk about the New York Mets for just a second here.

Talk about a roller-coaster of a season. They started off to an awful start and then slowly picked it up. But then in typical Mets fashion, they started to self implode. BUT THEN IN TYPICAL METS FASHION,

THEY HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK!

With a Braves loss yesterday, the Mets are now tied for the last playoff spot in the NL. Watch out!

🎾 Women’s US Open FINAL is Set!

What a night in Women’s tennis! Two Americans took the stage in two different semifinal matchups. First up was #13 Emma Navarro against #2 Aryna Sabalenka. After an unbelievable run, Navarro was outpowered and simply outmatched against the World No. 2! Sabalenka won in straight sets.

The nightcap was #6 Jessica Pegula and Karolina Muchova and what a match that was! The first set from Pegula may have been one of the ugliest sets of the tournament. She couldn’t get anything going and got smothered 6-1.

The crowd was out of it and the match seemed like it would last a total of 45 minutes. It was anything but. After losing seven straight games, a switch flipped and Jessica looked unstoppable. The crowd got into it and helped her get into her first Grand Slam final! She won the next two sets and will now face Sabalenka in the US Open Final!

Trivia Answer:

B. Colts! The Colts have lost 10 consecutive opening games to date, that’s tied for the longest streak in NFL History. The mid 2000’s-early 2010 Browns and the 1950’s/60’s Eagles have both lost 10 season openers in a row, but never 11!
