On This Day…

🏀 Let’s talk all-time wins today! It was on this day in 2009 when Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan got his 1000th win with the Jazz!

He became the first NBA Coach to ever record 1000 wins with a single team!

Today’s Stump Story…

🏈 A Super League in College Sports

When it’s all said and done, it makes a lot of sense for their to be some sort of super league in college athletics. Let’s dive into it…

If you know anything about me, you know that I’m a huge proponent of the college athletics super league. It just makes too much sense with the way that college sports have been moving in the last few years. With the increasing revenue gap and NIL increasing that gap, it’s hard to see colleges at lesser levels of division one competing.

Ralph D. Russo from The Athletic reported yesterday that Linda Livingstone, the president of Baylor and is currently serving as the chair of the NCAA’s Board of Governors, invited university leaders from the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, and ACC to a December summit with the purpose of hearing pitches for super leagues.

The conversations almost exclusively concern football, as it could generate more revenue for schools with a professional-style approach to the sport. This would create a centralized governing body that pays players.

Nothing has been said of the idea which I think should be put in place: a relegation system. Exactly like the big soccer leagues in Europe do it, it would be perfect for modern college football. Divide division one into two leagues, the bottom ten teams from the top division get relegated, and the top ten teams from the second highest division go up.

It would be perfect. We’d have teams always fighting to stay in the top. There could be revenue caps, NIL caps, everything. It would mean something to people. I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy, but I love the idea.

Yesterday, In a Nutshell

🏈 Browns General Manager Andrew Berry was extremely noncommittal regarding Deshaun Watson’s future with the team in an interview yesterday. The Browns, and Watson, have been extremely disappointing this year, and Watson suffered another season-ending injury early in the season. I’d bet my money that we’ll never see Watson in a Browns jersey again.

💃 Australian breakdance ‘Raygun’, the viral dancer from this past summer’s Olympics, says she’s done competing. She claims that the continued backlash pushed her to not go back to the dance floor. Breaking will not be a competitive sport in the 2028 Olympics after backlash flooded the internet.

🏀 2024 NBA Draft number one overall draft pick, Zaccharie Risacher, had his first breakout game in the NBA last night. Risacher had SIX threes, 33 total points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists and steals, en route to a 121-116 win over the New York Knicks. That was his first time over 20 points in his young NBA career, and the rising star looks to build on this momentum as the Hawks try to get over .500.
