ON THIS DAY 🗓

On this day in 2016…
Leicester City won the English Premier League title after 2nd place Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 at Chelsea.
Their title is arguably one of the great in soccer history, Leicester opened the season at 5000/1 odds. Leicester’s payroll was SEVEN times less than Man City and jumped from a 14th place finish the year prior to EPL champions.
STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍

Michael Porter Jr.’s Resilience Through Family Woes
Yesterday, Jevon Porter, brother of Nuggets sharpshooter Michael Porter Jr., was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Missouri. I think it was here that it was officially time to call what has been happening to the Porter family almost unbelievable. It seems like every couple days for the last month we have gotten an alert or headline talking about one of MPJ’s brothers and the trouble they have gotten into.
It started a few weeks ago when the NBA started to investigate Raptors forward Jontay Porter for sports betting. It came out the Jontay was a part of a betting scandal that involved his own Unders! After years of recovering from ACL and MCL tears, he was finally getting playing time for the first time in his career, and he threw it all away for a couple of thousand bucks in bets. Unreal!
The rumblings of this came out about a month or so ago, but then just two weeks ago Jontay Porter was given a LIFETIME BAN from the NBA.
The next story we heard was even worse. A week later, Coban Porter, was sentenced to six years in prison for a drunk driving incident last year that tragically killed a woman in Colorado. After seeing this alert come across our phones there was a collective, ‘What the heck just happened with the Porter family?’ across all of sports media.
Just yesterday, it seemed like it almost couldn’t be real when the headline I read was ‘Jevon Porter, brother of Michael Porter Jr., arrested for suspicion of DWI’. At this point it truly seems unbelievable.
While this has been going on, Mike has been absolutely balling for the Nuggets in their first playoff series against the Lakers, averaging 23 points, and 8 rebounds across the 5-game series win. When asked to comment on his brothers, he said, “[I’ve] definitely had to compartmentalize bad and sad stuff that’s happened to my brothers” and he went on to say “But I got, you know, 15, 16, brothers in here who got my back.”
Can’t imagine what has been going through his mind these last two weeks as he sees his brothers, who all had promising basketball futures, self-impose bad situations onto themselves.
Again, despite all of this, Michael has been able to play some of the best basketball of his career. I’ve watched him on the Nuggets for the last couple years now and the growth he has shown is incredible. Although he gets made fun of for all of his 0 assist games, he seems to be making the extra pass, diving on the floor for loose balls, and shooting at an elite level. He’s doing exactly what the Denver Nuggets are asking of him.
On top of this, his podcast ‘Curious Mike’ has gotten the most traction it has in years.
Keep doing your thing Mike, in a situation where so much seems to be falling around you it’s been inspiring to watch you play the way you have been! Keep doing your thing and go help the Nugs go back-to-back!

🗣Quote of the Day
Worry never robs tomorrow of it’s sorrow, it only saps today of it’s joy.
Famous American Author and Professor, Leo went DEEP in his BAG for this one. He also kind of robbed a bible verse, but we won’t get too biblical on you. This is a great quote, worrying today will fix what is bound to happen, it only ruins today.

Glue Guy of the Day👷🚧
Zamboni Driver

Talk about a guy nobody talks about. Ice doesn’t just magically stay smooth! It’s the goat that’s manning the ZAMBONI (what a name by the way) that keeps the ice ready to go. There’s no good hockey without the Zamboni Driver.
