People Aren’t Talking Enough About…

🔥Montana State STUMPSET… Kinda🏈

When FCS (NCAA Division 1a) Montana State came back from a 17-point deficit to defeat FBS New Mexico (NCAA Division 1) Saturday in New Mexico, they became the first lower division team of the year to upset a division one program.

To the naked eye, this SHOULD be an upset. New Mexico has more money, a bigger program, play in a higher division, a bigger stadium, more general resources, etc., etc., etc. But yet, Vegas oddsmakers had Montana State as a 13.5 point favorite to win this game. For you non sports gamblers, that means Vegas thought Montana St is 13.5 points better than New Mexico.

It is rare for a lower division team to win these type of games, maybe a couple happen a year. It is even more rare for a lower division team like Montana State to be so heavily favored in one of these games.

Not only was this a testament to how good of a football program Montana State has built, who went 8-4 last year and start this season ranked No. 4 in the FCS, it was a slight to New Mexico.

New Mexico are in their first year under new head coach Bronco Mendenhall and will take a trip to No. 21 Arizona next week, so it’s not likely to get any prettier.

On This Day…

In 2004, it was a clean sweep for the Americans in the 200m sprint at the Athens Olympics. Shawn Crawford won the Gold with a time of 19.79 seconds. Behind him came Bernard Williams and Justin Gatlin for the Silver and Bronze.

It’s been a while since USA Track has been a powerhouse, but after a very strong performance this past Olympics in Paris, it’s safe to say they are back!

⚾️ The Most Interesting At Bat in MLB History

When Danny Jansen takes the field for the Red Sox today it will mark history. Jansen will be finishing a game that he started as a player on the opposing team. But HOW?

When the Red Sox vs Blue Jays game on June 26th was suspended during the second inning due to rain, Jansen was on the Blue Jays. In fact, he was at the plate when the game got suspended. A month after the suspended game, Jansen was traded to Red Sox.

As a result of that trade, the Red Sox released the catcher he was replacing. So when the game stars tomorrow, the Blue Jays will pinch hit a new batter for Jansen, who will be behind the plate for the Red Sox.

I already feel the trivia nerds 30 years from now using this one on people.

⚾️ LLWS Finale for the Ages

It took extra innings to decide the Little League World Series Title Game between Chinese Taipei and Lake Mary, Florida, as the Florida squad pulled out a gritty 2-1 win.

Taipei jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and kept it until the last inning and the last out. Back against the wall, DeMarcos Mieses hit a game tying single for Florida to bring home the game-tying run. The boys from Florida used a BUNT and an error to bring home the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning.

The same Florida team was down to their last out in the US Championship on Saturday. Trailing by 3 runs, they scored 5 runs with two men out in the last inning to win 12-10.

It was the first championship for a team from Florida in 9 tries, and boy did they have to fight for it.

⛳️Mr. Captain, Lead Us!

Keegan Bradley was named the Ryder Cup captain (USA vs Europe) a few weeks back and there was a lot of criticism. Haters were saying he hasn’t been playing too well, he’s too young, not experienced on the stage enough. Well, Keegan took that personally.

Keegan played inspirational golf this weekend at the BMW Championship, as he was the LAST golfer to make the field of 50. He became one of three US Ryder Cup captains to win a PGA Tour event after being named Captain of the squad. The other two are Davis Love and Jack Nicklaus, not bad company.

Crowds rained down Bradley with “U-S-A” chants as he came through the back nine of the course today. It felt like the whole state of Colorado was there cheering their captain on.

This was also huge for Keegan in the President’s Cup (USA vs World) chase, which takes place in 4 weeks. The top 6 American point scorers on the PGA Tour automatically qualify, and then team captain Jim Furyk gets six selections of his own. Keegan now sits No. 10.
