Bryce Young Takes a Seat

Former #1 pick gets benched, Cousins Leads the Falcons to Victory, a couple of different courtroom suits going on across sports, and Air Force may be getting more American!

Heyyyyy now heyyyyy now it’s Tuesday! Must be something in the water yesterday cause we spent a lot of this newsletter talking about the courtroom. From Paige Bueckers to the MLB suing sports gambling, to Jordan Chiles trying to get her Bronze back. If you’re a soccer fan, today is a big day for you as the Champions League gets rolling. Oh and an UGLYYYY MNF game ended with a Kirk Cousins game-winning drive! It’s a great day to read the stump, let’s ride!

Today’s Trivia🧠

🏀 The Toronto Raptors and which Canadian city had their inaugural NBA season in 1995?

  • A. Montreal

  • B. Vancouver

  • C. Ottawa

  • D. Calgary

  • E. Edmonton

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

In 1954, there was a rematch in Yankee Stadium! But not a baseball game. It was a legitimate Heavyweight Title fight between Rocky Marciano and Ezzard Charles. Marciano KO’d Charles in the 8th round to retain his Heavyweight title.

Fun fact for you: It was Rocky Marciano that Sylvester Stallone based Rocky Balboa’s fight style after. It did not inspire the story as that was Chuck Wepner, but how the character would fight style-wise.

What’s Worth Your Time

🏈😂 Fly Eagles Fly! Insane Loss in an UGLY MNF Game!

If you watched this entire game, I’m sorry. I’m with you. And I’m sorry. Tough watch but at least we had the Manningcast! It was boring but some CRAZY things in the 4th led to a Falcons win…

Fast forward to 1:42 minutes left in the fourth. The Eagles THREW THE BALL?!?!? The Falcons had no timeouts and the Eagles could’ve burned another 40 seconds off the clock. Nope, Sirianni and the boys decided to throw the rock. The following order of events went something like this…

Incomplete Pass. FG with 1:40 left to go up 6. Kirk. Cousins. Game. Winning. Drive.

6 plays and they almost scored too quick! The Falcons should play the entire game as if it’s a two-minute drill because they looked unstoppable to end the game! The Falcons win. The Eagles lose. I’m not usually this guy but the Eagles deserve to lose that game!

🏈Bryce Young Taking a Seat

It’s been a struggle in Carolina since Bryce Young came in as the number-one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Panthers have decided to have Young take a step back and let veteran QB Andy Dalton take over the reins for a little bit. What does this mean for Bryce?

While this doesn’t mean Young’s career is over, it does equal an unfortunate speed bump. Especially as the guy who was taken 2nd overall in the same draft, CJ Stroud, has been exceptional and led his team to the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs last season.

Young has struggled mightily, but the talent around him has also not been superb. The Panthers are in the middle of a big-time overhaul, and Young has been suffering from the lack of talent around him. Young himself hasn’t been great, there’s no doubt about that, but he hasn’t got the help either.

I don’t think this is the end of his career, but I do think there needs to be some major improvements made around him if the Bryce Young experiment in Carolina is going to work. While Young hits the reset button, we’ll see what the Panthers can do with Andy Dalton as QB1.

🏀Man Charged With Stalking, Harassing Paige Bueckers

In the world of social media, NIL, and college athletes as internet stars, fans feel as close as ever to student-athletes. Sometimes, they get a little too close…

This is no joking matter. I’m sure this is absolutely terrifying for athletes, especially young student-athletes. An Oregon man was held on $100,000 bond after appearing in CT Superior Court to face charges of stalking and harassing UConn Women’s Basketball star Paige Bueckers.

Robert Cole Parmalee is being charged with breach of peace, electronic stalking, and harassment. This is some scary stuff, I’m not going to get into the details, but people are crazy.

🤸‍♀️Jordan Chiles Taking Her Bid For Bronze to the Courtroom

American gymnast Jordan Chiles was robbed of her Bronze medal in the Olympics just a little over a month ago, now she’s asking the Swiss Supreme Court to overturn a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. What really happened and what’s the next step?

Chiles filed the appeal yesterday, she is trying to overturn the CAS ruling that voided an on-floor appeal by Chiles’ coach Cecile Landi during the event finals that took Chiles from fifth to third and the bronze.

CAS overturned their appeal following a hearing request by Romanian officials that claimed Landi’s appeal came beyond the 1-minute time limit for scoring inquiries. The initial scores were then restored and Chiles fell back to the fifth position.

Chiles’ appeal claims that CAS violated her right to be heard and that Hamid G. Gharavi, the president of the CAS panel that made the decision, has a conflict of interest due to past legal ties to Romania.

Updates to come on this story as it continues to evolve…

⚾️MLB Players’ Union Sues DraftKings and FanDuel in NIL Suit

The MLB Players Union sued sports gambling giants DraftKings and FanDuel yesterday, accusing the companies of using the names and likeness of HUNDREDS of players on their platforms without their permission. Whoa.. thisssss could be a big one!

Players are seeking compensatory and punitive damages from the sports gambling companies, calling sports betting “big business” and committing flagrant violations of state laws protecting the right of publicity. Basically: “They’re using our players and not paying us for it”!

This comes three weeks after the NFL Players Union launched the same suit against DraftKings, the two are represented by the same law firm.

I’m no sports lawyer, but I’ll tell you this much: it’s never a good thing when a big corporation like the MLB comes knocking on your door. Good luck, everybody else!

🏈 Air Force Might Join the AAC? Military Schools, UNITE!

Air Force hasn’t budged during the massive conference realignment that’s been taking place over the last couple years. With news breaking yesterday, it looks like not even the United States Air Force is safe when it comes to moving conferences…

The American Athletic Conference, known as the AAC, is apparently seriously targeting the Air Force Academy to join the conference in the coming years. Air Force has been a member of the Mountain West Conference for many years now, but the Mountain West is going through some big changes as well.

With the news that the PAC-12 is coming back, many strong Mountain West teams are being named as potential fits for the new look conference. With Air Force kind of being the odd man out, the American has come calling.

The AAC already has Army West Point and the Naval Academy, so adding the Air Force would be pretty freaking sick. I’d love to see these three teams battle it out every year. The Army-Navy game is sick enough, but imagine the Army-Air Force game, the Navy-Air Force game??? Now we’re cooking baby! Make it happen AAC!

Yesterday, but the Good Stuff❗️❗️

Useful Human Invention

Not going to lie to you, how did people wake up on time before alarms? I don’t believe everyone just knew when to wake up. People had to be late all the time.
