THE DAILY STUMPED🔮

  • A. North American Association of Ice Hockey (NAAIH)

  • C. National Hockey Association (NHA)

  • D. Association of Men’s Ice Hockey (AMIH)

  • E. International Association of Men on Skates (IAMS)

Answer at the bottom of The Stump!

ON THIS DAY 🗓

On this day in 1962 and 1990…

Apparently, it’s the Day of the Intentional Walk in the MLB! In 1962, Roger Maris recorded 4 intentional walks in a nine inning game. In 1990, Andre Dawson recorded 5 intentional walks in one game, an MLB record.

These guys must have been on some real hot streaks entering this day, cause pitchers were not messing around and giving them anything at all to hit. Legends striking fear in their opponents.

STUMP STORY OF THE DAY

Jaden Rashada: Taking the Stand

In an unprecedented move, college football QB Jaden Rashada has SUED Florida Football Head Coach Billy Napier, along with a UF booster and another former UF staffer for “loss of millions of dollars in NIL” and is seeking north of $10 million in damages.

In 2023, Jaden Rashada was a highly touted recruit from Pittsburg High School in California. Rashada, a dominant high school QB and the No. 31 recruit in his class was deciding between two Florida schools for his college experience: Miami U and the University of Florida.

The decisions came down to numbers, dollar bill-type numbers. He initially committed to Miami U, along with it was a NIL deal worth $9.5 million. Coach Billy Napier and the Florida Gators weren’t ready to lose their guy, so they responded with a NIL deal worth $13.5 million over 4 years. Unsurprisingly, Rashada followed the money, and quickly flipped his commitment to Florida.

Weeks later, the money didn’t materialize. The NIL collective at Florida couldn’t find the funds for the signing bonus and the rest of his agreement. Rashada’s NIL deal was taken away, his commitment along with it.

Rashada was now without a home, and more importantly, no NIL deal. Rashada quickly committed to Arizona State, and since has entered the transfer portal and will play this season at Georgia. But why is this all relevant? Why should I care?

Well, this opens the door for hundreds of student athletes who aren’t getting what they were promised in NIL deals and compensation. Before, when players were getting paid under the table, they had nobody to complain to, nobody the blow the whistle to, and nowhere to go. Now, they can sue. Jaden Rashada is, at least.

I’m not exactly sure where this case will go, I don’t think anyone does. What I do know is this: college athletes are more powerful than they ever have been before. Slowly, they are starting to flex their power and rights in unprecedented ways, and man do I love it. It’s about time those shady guys offering high school kids a bunch of money to play at the school they went to 50 years ago got called out for their bs.

Glue Guy of the Day

Tower Fan

Self-explanatory here. With the weather getting the way it is, a tower fan is unbelievably clutch! Nothing like that breeze. Especially when it’s rotating and you get it for just 3 seconds!

DAILY STUMPED ANSWER

C. National Hockey Association, it disbanded due to internal conflicts and made way for what we know today as the National Hockey League (NHL)!
