🏃‍♂️ Marathon in your 70’s

There’s a lot of hype around marathons these days, and rightfully so, they are unbelievably hard and take some serious training. But for some, it feels like it’s just in their blood to be a runner, that’s the case with our friend Jo.

On this day in 2022, Dutch runner Jo Schoonbroodt breaks Canadian Ed Whitlock’s 2004 record for the fastest marathon by a person over 70 years old. Jo ran the Massmarathon of Vise in Belboom, Belgium with a time of 2:54:19, 29 seconds faster than Ed. Age is just a number.

New York on FIRE, OKC Regroups

🤯 There Is a Hex in Boston!

What. Is. Happening. There is a Hex in Boston, and the New York Knicks have taken full advantage of it. You wouldn’t believe it if I told you, but again the Celtics choked a 20-point late third quarter lead! Inexplicable!

I feel as if I could copy and paste what was written here just two Stumps ago. It was comically close! The score also mirrored it exactly as well! With 3 minutes to go in the third quarter, the Celtics were up by 20 on the Knicks despite both Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown playing at their best! They again struggled from 3, going 10/40, but this was not the story coming out of this one.

It was instead the fourth quarter struggles from the field overall. The Celtics just could not buy a bucket when they needed one the most! And on the flipside, Mikal Bridges who had a donut all game, COULD NOT MISS in the fourth!

This New York team is full of glue guys, and that is not a team you want to face off against this time of year, you just don’t. Bridges was making shots, KAT played well, Hart was making shots, OG was putting on the clamps. All of this brought it to a 7 point game with 5 minutes to go. At this point, it was time to bring in the closer. Jalen Brunson.

Brunson had struggled all game, but all of that seemingly vanished when the game officially reached clutch-time! Brunson couldn’t miss, the Celtics couldn’t make, and a 20-point lead evaporated. Knicks up 1. The Celtics showed resolve late, reclaiming the lead after being down 3 with 90 seconds remaining. But 2 Brunson free throws captured the lead back for NY, and a Mikal Bridges block and steal sealed the deal for New York. Knicks up 2-0! Nobody ,and I mean nobody, saw this one coming! We’re off to THE GARDEN!

As for the Thunder-Nuggets game…

The Thunder won. They won by a lot. That is all! Series tied 1-1!

🏀 Curry to Miss at Least a Week

The injury bug is making it’s way through the NBA playoffs right now and it just got it’s latest victim, Stephen Curry.

After leaving game one against the Timberwolves a little early, Steph Curry has officially been diagnosed with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain and is expected to miss up to at least one week. That means Curry is slated to be out through at least Game 4 on Monday of next week, and a potential game 5 would be eight days after the original injury. In his time in Golden State, the Warriors are 9-3 in the 12 playoff games he missed with injuries. KD played in six of those games, Draymond and Klay played in all 12. So who’s the X-factor this time? Who else but playoff Jimmy. This won’t be his first time leading a playoff run all by himself (sorry Bam). I think the Warriors still very much have a pulse.

⚾️ High’s and Low’s of Baseball for Dylan Cease

Heading into the 7th inning, the New York Yankees had been held hitless by San Diego Padres pitcher Dylan Cease. Shortly after that, bad luck hit Cease hard.

No hitting anyone is hard, but no hitting arguably the best offense in all of baseball is even harder. 6th full innings without a hit given up for Dylan Cease is an extreme high, a great start for a high quality pitcher. Cody Bellinger came up to the plate for the Yankees to start the 7th inning, that’s when it went downhill. Bellinger blasted a homer into the second deck of right field to tie up the ball game 1-1 for New York’s first hit off of Cease of the night. Cease bounced back, striking out Anthony Volpe in the next at bat, but came up lame in a 1-2 pitch to Jasson Dominguez. Padres manager Mike Shildt and an athletic trainer went out to the mound, and left the mound with Cease and took him to the locker room. The injury is currently unknown, but it’s rough timing as Cease was finally starting to look like the ace the Padres traded for after a poor start to the season.

⚽️ Champions League Final Set

In the capital of France, Arsenal needed to put on their big boy pants to advance to the Champions League final against Inter after falling to PSG in the first leg 1-0. Could they pull off a miracle like yesterday?

In short, they could not. With the home crowd behind them, PSG got out to an early lead thanks to a 27th minute Fabian Ruiz goal. The match went quiet for a while, until Achraf Hakimi jolted life into the French fans once again, making their aggregate lead 3-0 after a 72nd minute goal. For a minute, Arsenal looked hopeless. 4 minutes later, a Saka strike put the English club on the board, but it just was not enough. PSG was fabulous in two matches and earned the right to play for the Champions League final against Inter. PSG (-180) opened as the early favorites.
