STUMP STORY OF THE DAY✍️

What To Look Out For: MLB Edition

Well we had a nice break for baseball with the all-star break but we’re back! And there’s a whole lot to look out for! Here are a couple storylines!

Lachlan Cunningham/Getty Images

Close Divisional Races

The second half of the season is full of some close races. Out of the 6 current divisional leaders, 4 of them currently lead by less than 5 games. The Orioles in the AL East and Mariners in the AL West each only have a lead of 1 GAME! It will be really interesting to see how all of this shakes out. The AL East in particular with the Yankees having an ugly stretch heading into the All-Star break and the Red Sox being RED hot! We’ll see what happens.

The Guardians and Brewers each have a 4.5-game lead over the Twins and Cardinals.

The Paul Skenes Express

If there was any question if Paul Skenes had any juice. The questions have all been answered. As a rookie he was the starting pitcher in the All-Star game for the NL and the Pirates are somehow .500. His starts have become must-watch TV. Can’t remember the last time I ever put a Pirates game on my list of things to watch but it’s absolutely there now. Through his first 11 starts, he has a 1.90 ERA with 12 strikeouts per 9 innings. He’s a flamethrower on the mound and the Pirates are in the hunt amidst a WILD wild card race in the NL (which we’ll get to).

ALL RISE: Aaron Judge

Two years ago Aaron Judge had a historic year with 62 home runs. At this point 2 years ago he had 38 homers. Currently, he is just four off that total with 34. The Yankees had an UGLYYYY last 5 weeks heading into the All-Star break but maybe this break is what they needed to regroup and figure things out heading into the second-half of the year! Will he make history again?

NL Wild Card FRENZY

After a month into the season, if I told you that the New York Baseball Mets would be holding onto the last playoff spot in the NL you would've asked how many screws I have loose up top. The screws are a topic up for debate but the Mets are holding on for dear life to that last spot. There are SEVEN teams that are within six games of the Mets. Nobody can pack it in for next year. They all have a fighting shot to make the postseason and as we all know, anything goes in October.

The White Sox Are Bad. Really Bad.

Going to keep this one nice and short because White Sox fans have already gone through enough this season. The White Sox have lost 71 games, and they are in contention for having the worst record in modern MLB history. It’s going to be tough to pass the 1962 Mets at 120 losses. But crazier things have happened. For your sake Chicago I hope it doesn’t happen.

JUICE STATION🧃

Quote of the Day

“Embrace the Hog.”

Sam Pittman

This guy is the head coach at Arkansas, this was his answer to how the Razorbacks are going to get better!

Song of the Day

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Elton John

This is how I’m going to feel leaving work today.. GOODBYE!

Glue Guy of the Day

Defined: Glue Guy (Noun, Verb, Adj., etc.) - a person, thing, idea, or thought that holds together the larger group. Not the star, not the main character, but a hard hat and lunch pale type who knows its role. The GLUE of the group.

Ice Tray

We’ve been down the Ice route before, but I think with all of the different ice makers flying around these days, the ICE TRAY doesn’t get enough love. An OG in the refreshment game, has been absolutely GLUE for the game for years.
