⭐️ All-Star Saturday Night Results!

What to know: Last night, we had the trifecta: The Skills Challenge, the Three Point Contest, and the Slam Dunk Contest. Let’s break them each down.

Skills Challenge: Typically the most boring of the three, the Skills Challenge got REAL interesting yesterday when the Spurs squad of Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama were DISQUALIFIED for not taking “valid shots”. The two thought they could cheat the rules by just throwing the balls as quick as possible and not necessarily trying to make any shots. The powers that be disagreed. The two were DQ’d.

The Cavs squad of Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell were the winners of this event, posting a time of just over a minute. Another victory for a Cavs team that can’t seem to really lose this season.

Three-Point Contest: Coming into this event, it was obvious that Damian Lillard was the favorite. Dame has won the last two and was trying to become the first player ever to three-peat in that event. Instead, Dame took on Miami Heat flamethrower Tyler Herro in the first round, and lost.

Herro went on to win the whole dang thing. As Drew said yesterday in his prediction, Herro had the chance to win if he got hot early. And boy, oh boy, did he get hot. Herro won his first-round matchup and never really looked back.

Slam Dunk Contest: If your name isn’t Mac McClung, you don’t win Slam Dunk Contests right now. The G-League dunking sensation and two-time Slam Dunk contest was welcomed back to the spotlight last night and did NOT disappoint.

McClung came out hot in the first round by jumping over a car, specifically a KIA for those wondering who the NBA is sponsored by these days. McClung managed to slam home all four dunks, each awarded with a perfect score of 50. His final dunk consisted of him jumping over Evan Mobley, tapping the ball on the rim, and slamming it home. He is the first player to win three consecutive slam dunk contests.

🏒🇺🇸 U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A! Team USA def. Canada, 3-1, in 4 Nations!

What to know: In a world where professional athletes tend to take games off, use the all-star game to recover, and typically shy away from the grit and grime, hockey is not that sport. When two of the NHL’s best players drop the gloves at the start of the game, you know this means something.

The NBA, NFL, and even MLB have taken a step back in recent years and looked at their All-Star game after many questioned how much players actually care about it. The NHL looked at their own All-Star game, but they are the only ones who have 100% gotten it right. The 4 Nations Face-Off is absolutely must-watch TV.

Not only do the players care, they want to win above all else. Team USA and Canada faced off last night, and no matter who you were rooting for, you could agree that these two squads cared. Heck, guys were throwing haymakers not even 2 seconds into the game.

Team Canada got out to an early lead in this one, thanks to NHL star Connor McDavid. But that was the only time that Team Canada was able to light up the Montreal crowd. Team USA looked to be on their heels, but a Jake Guentzel goal tied up the game in the middle of the first period.

It was all USA from there. A brilliant game from Connor Hellebuyck in USA’s goal kept the US afloat, and a second-period goal from Dylan Larkin put the USA up. Guentzel scored the 3rd, and his second, USA goal of the game to seal the deal in the 3rd period. USA officially secured their spot in the title game with this win.

Who says the All-Star break doesn’t matter?

🏀 Review of Saturday’s MAYHEM!

What to know: We had a massive slate of college basketball yesterday! Let’s quickly review some of what went down!

(1) Auburn def. (2) Alabama, 94-85 - Auburn is a certified wagon! Their big man star Johni Broome was playing on a hobbled leg in the second half and he still couldn’t be stopped. He ended the game with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks! Auburn proved again that they are one of the best teams in the nation with a defiant road victory in a hostile environment! These two teams will face off AT LEAST one more time this season!

(6) Houston def. (12) Arizona, 62-58 - Fresh off a good road win against Baylor, the Houston Cougars were heavily tested on the road against a very good Arizona team! They were down 7 with around 10 minutes to go in the game, and then they flipped a defensive switch! They held the Wildcats to without a FG for 6 minutes en route to recapture the lead and stretch it to 7! Houston gritted out a tough win against a tough opponent!

(3) Duke def. Stanford, 106-70 - Alright, it’s time to figure out what’s really going on here. Is this just going to be another Duke team led by a Freshman phenom that falls in the Sweet Sixteen? Or is this going to be a team that makes a run?! This phenom we speak of, Cooper Flagg, stuffed the stat sheet again with 19 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. His youth alongside fellow freshman Kon Knueppel, mixed with the experience of Tyrese Proctor…could be what they need to get back over the hump….or maybe not!

Seton Hall def. UCONN in OT, 69-68 - Nothing to say here. Safe to say the fellas will be going through inbound plays til they are blue in the face this week! Are we not as good as we used to be? True. Does this team flip into another gear come March? Also true. Sheesh that was tough to watch.
