Sunday Funday: Let’s Catch You Up

A lot went down yesterday in the sports world, we’re here to make sure you’re all caught up!

Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final

In a rematch of last years final, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic faced off for a chance to add another Tennis Grand Slam victory to their trophy case. Alcaraz got off to a hot start and never looked back. He took the first two sets, 6-2, 6-2, and then won the third and final set 7-6. Djokovic stood no chance as the young Spaniard came out firing on all cylinders. This could’ve been a true passing of the torch in the men’s tennis world as Novak just looked a step slower than Carlos.

The Genesis Scottish Open

The PGA Tour was across this pond this weekend in Scotland as the schedule takes its UK swing of the season. Going into the day the tournament was in the hands of Ludvig Aberg, but a rough day for him lead to his playing partner, and hometown kid, big Bobby MacIntryre, making a run to the top of the leaderboard. He didn’t lead however until his last putt was sunk. He finished the day with a miraculous last few holes to catch up to Adam Scott. He played the last four holes 3-under par, including a match tying eagle putt, and a near twenty foot birdie putt on the last hole to win.

Euro Championship Finals

I’m sorry England, this must be getting really old. The English took on the Spanish for a chance at a European football crown. The Spanish went ahead in the first 45 and took a lead going into half. The English responded with a goal from Cole Palmer to tie up the match in the second half. In the 84th minute, the Spanish score an unbelievable goal to take the lead late, it was enough to take home the victory. It was a great victory for Spain and another big time heartbreak for England.

COPA America Final

This started off as an absolute crap shoot, hours before the game even started. Fans were pouring into the stadium, jumping fences, scaling walls, and pushing their way through security. It got so bad that they stopped checking tickets. They were just letting people in. Crazy scene, really really bad look for COPA. As far as the game is concerned, it was a defensive battle from start to finish. It wasn’t until the 112th minute that a goal was scored, and that was enough to secure the victory.
