CFB Saturday! Is BC Legit?

A Sluka Show for UNLV, Gunnar Henderson ends No-Hit Bid, Another Tiger Surgery, and a FULL College Football Slate!

THE WEEKEND HAS ARRIVED! Happy Saturday folks! A lot on the docket this weekend. A lot of College Football, the MLB Wild Card race gets REEALLLLL interesting, and A LOT of soccer. Yesterday we had a No-Hit bid get crushed in the Ninth, a superhero performance by UNLV QB Matthew Sluka, and a rally around Tua! Let’s get into the STUMP!

Today’s Trivia🧠

🏈 On Thursday, South Alabama DESTROYED Northwestern State 87-10! This was the most points by an FBS team since 1991! Who did it and how many points did they score?

  • A. Ole Miss (88)

  • B. Missouri (90)

  • C. Fresno State (94)

  • D. UCLA (98)

  • E. Boston College (102)

(answer at the bottom of the Stump!)

On This Day…

In 1987, ‘The IRON MAN’ Cal Ripken Jr., had his streak of 908 games (8,243 innings finally broken). The Hall of Famer played his entire 21-year career for the Baltimore Orioles and for lack of a better term, was an Iron Man on the diamond. 908 games is 5 and a half straight seasons!

Here’s a Cal Ripken Jr. Defensive Highlight Reel: LINK

What’s Worth Your Time

⚾️Tigers Come One Out Shy

The Detroit Tigers took a PERFECT GAME into the eighth inning tonight and fell one out short of a combined no-hitter in their 1-0 win over the Orioles last night.

With two outs in the ninth inning, Gunnar Henderson came up to bat and hit a triple just by the diving reach of Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkleson.

An absolutely brutal way to end the game but I’ll tell you what, the Tigers are getting hot at the right time and the Orioles are getting cold at the wrong time. A huge 1-0 for the Tigers keeps them alive in the Wild Card race, and the Orioles need to find some hitting QUICK before the playoffs.

🏈The Tua Rhetoric Has Been Positive For Sports

There comes a time and place where it may be just time to hang it up. I’m not qualified to make that decision, but I will say this: the rhetoric around this situation has been the right rhetoric.

Everyone has been saying the right thing: Tua should prioritize his health, above all else. He shouldn’t even think about football. He needs to prioritize his family, his future, and his body. It doesn’t feel very long ago when the talk would’ve been “he’s fineeeeee” or “give him a week”. It shows the game is growing.

There is life after football, should Tua explore his options? Probably. It would be dumb for him not to.

🏈 Matthew Sluka! A Rebel, A Freight Train, or BOTH?

“Friday Night football, why would I tune into that?” If you weren’t the person to say this and you tuned in late to UNLV-Kansas last night, you were in for an absolute treat. In UNLV’s final drive, there was a fumblerooski that will no doubt be on ‘C’Mon Man’, a toe-tip interception that was said to be a millimeter out of bounds, penalties. on both sides of the ball, and last but not least…a Freight Train loose off the tracks!

UNLV QB Matthew Sluka put the team on his back and ran for almost every first down on their final drive. The last couple of minutes of the highlights of this game are worth are a watch.

UNLV is now 3-0 and are in an early spot to possibly win the Mountain West and find their way into the College Football Playoff! I don’t know much but moving forward, Matt Sluka will be must-watch TV!

🏈Is BC legit? We’ll know at about 1:30…

Boston College is one of the schools that I feel like will randomly be very good once every 10-15 years. Is this year that year for the Golden Eagles?

BC enters today’s game versus (6) Missouri as the 24th-ranked team in the land, coming off a pretty convincing win versus Florida State. They have an electric QB who can throw and run that goes along with an extremely strong run game that features two RBs who can get the job done.

They are well coached with former Texans head coach Bill O’Brien at the helm, who despite a lot of poor decisions as the leader of the front office in Houston, can coach the hell out of a football team.

The game starts at 12:45 today and I’d reckon that at about 1:30, we’ll know if BC is legit or not.

⛳️Tiger On the Mend

The BIG CAT had yet another surgery on his lower back yesterday morning, his sixth surgery on his lower back in the past 10 years.

The surgery was described as a micro-decompression surgery of the lumbar spine to relieve some of the stress on the lower part of his back. The surgery hopes to relieve some of the spasms like those he experienced mid-season this past year.

He has not played competitive golf since missing the cut at The Open in July and he is not scheduled to play again until the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas on Dec. 5-8 and the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, on Dec. 21-22 in Orlando, Florida.

⚽️Poch’s Opening Presser

Mauricio Pochettino had his first presser as the head man of the United States Men’s National team yesterday, and what should we take from it?

He started by saying that his players should aspire to achieve as much as the American women, including winning a World Cup. The US men have not reached the World Cup quarterfinals since 2002 and have never won the sport’s top tournament.

On the other hand, the women have won four World Cups and five Olympic gold medals. Poch will become the 10th US coach in 14 years and will become the first foreign-born leader since Jurgen Klinsmann was boss from 2011 to 2016.

Emma Hayes, who is the new woman in charge of the USWNT, helped recruit Poch to the US. The two were together when Poch was the head man at Chelsea and Hayes led the women’s team in Chelsea.

The biggest quote from Poch is, “WE BELIEVE!”.

Yesterday, but the Good Stuff❗️❗️
