🏃‍♂️ Henderson Races Past Cobb

When it comes to running the bases, there aren’t many better than Rickey Henderson. 893 bases later, he passed a legend.

On this day in 1990. Oakland Athletics outfielder Rickey Henderson stole his 893rd base, breaking the long standing record by baseball hall of famer Ty Cobb. Henderson went on to swipe 1,406 career bases, and passed Lou Brock in 1992 to take over the top spot on the leaderboard. No active MLB player has more than 357.

2025 Memorial Tournament

🏌️‍♂️ Scottie vs. The Field

It should come as no surprise that the man himself, Scottie Scheffler, comes into this weekends PGA Tournament event as the favorite. Heck, even Vegas agrees with us, but when you see how big of a favorite, it might shock you.

There’s no doubt that Scottie’s domination over the past two years has been well advertised and well warranted. After a comeback attempt last week at the Charles Schwab fell short, the world was a little shocked. It’s almost as if it’s more surprising when he doesn’t take home the victory compared to when he does. This week, at the home course of PGA Tour legend Jack Nicklaus, beautiful Muirfield Golf Village will once again bring the best of the best to it’s rustling Ohio valley.

With Scottie’s main competition, Rory McIlroy, deciding to take the weekend off in preparation for the RBC Canadian Open and the US Open in early June, there’s quite a bit of separation by the oddsmakers between Scottie and everyone else. Scheffler enters the tournament as a (+300) favorite to win the whole thing. The next highest is a tie between four guys at (+1600): Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and Patrick Cantlay. So it truly is Scottie or the field. Picking anyone else may be like buying a lotto ticket. I’m not here to give betting advice, personally, I just like to see some different guys win.

Here’s the problem, however, the field has to beat Scottie. I really like Collin Morikawa this week. He’s won here before, but he also fits the course really well. Jack’s course rewards strong iron players, and that’s the strength of his game. We’ve also seen some guys win here in the past despite not the best putter game in the world, and while Collin’s short game has improved in recent years, he still lacks the top level stuff. Morikawa has not won since October of 2023 and is long overdue to end his drought, much like Justin Thomas did just a few weeks back. Don’t count out JT either, before his missed-cut at the PGA Championship, he had two second place finishes and a playoff win in four tournaments. He just may get back on track.

One person who has quietly played well at this course in the past is Matt Fitzpatrick, who has three top-10 finishes in his six appearances at Muirfield. He hasn’t won in more than two years, but a familiar track may be just what he needs. His one top-10 finish in 12 events this year is a career low.

A smaller field for this PGA Signature Event ($20M purse) means two golfer pairings, here’s some to watch before heading into the weekend:

  • Tony Finau & Akshay Batia (8:30 AM)

  • Jordan Spieth & Xander Schauffele (10:05 PM on ESPN+)

  • Victor Hovland & Ludvig Aberg (10:15 AM on ESPN+)

  • Hideki Matsuyama & Collin Morikawa (10:25 AM on ESPN+)

  • Justin Thomas & Patrick Cantlay (1:20 PM)

  • Scottie Scheffler & Sepp Straka (1:30 PM)

The Hot Stove

🏀 OKC Thunder Off to the NBA Finals!

The Oklahoma City Thunder were the best team in the West all year, and now they cement that fact by dismantling the Timberwolves in 5, and await the winner of the Pacers-Knicks series!

You would hope that a closeout game would bring a close one…calling this one a rout would be an understatement. The Thunder have been unbelievable at home all year long, and a closeout game on their home floor is not a recipe for success for the visitors.

At the end of the first quarter last night, the score was 26-9 Thunder. 26 points is a below average quarter for the Thunder, this was ok however because the Timberwolves ONLY HAD 9! Not a typo! A closeout game and they came out absolutely flat. This one is going to be tough for them to recover from. This is onw two straight years where they have been bounced in this round in 5 games. Ant Man is an unbelievable player, but the guy we saw against LA and Golden State was not the same guy we saw this series!

For the Thunder, everybody came to play. SGA had another near triple-double with 34-7-8, Chet had 22, and J Dub had 19. There’s still a tough series ahead, but man has this team looked good this postseason. Now they wait!

🏒 Panthers Set for Third Straight Stanley Cup Final

It’s not often we see a team make it to three straight Championship Series’, no matter what the sport is. We are amidst something special in the hockey world, and it’s happening in Florida!

Carolina fans have not had a whole lot to be happy about this series, that being said the first period had the crowd erupting! Sebastian Aho netted two goals in the first period which ended 2-0! There was a chance! The second period was all Panthers, scoring 3 goals in the last 12 minutes of the period.

Seth Jarvis was able to tie it at 3 halfway into the third, but the roars were short lived after the Panthers were able to answer back, and then tack on another one late courtesy of an empty-netter! The Panthers now await the winner of the West. Will it be a familiar foe, or will they instead see the Dallas Stars!
