On this day in 1996 — Tommy Lasorda stepped down as the Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lasorda was the manager for 20 years and won two World Series rings and 4 NL Pennants.

He managed 3040 games for the Dodgers, and won 1599, a win percentage of (.526). He was a 6x NL Manager of the Year and inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997. A true baseball legend.

Let’s Talk Catching a Homer: It’s an Art

Not only is going to the ballpark to catch a game a great time, but you may even walk out of there with a souvenir, unless of course, you drop it.

It was a good night in Boston to be a Red Sox fan. The Sox were up big pretty much the whole game, and it never really got close. The biggest disappointment for Red Sox fans came in the 5th inning:

Up 10-1, Red Sox first baseman Dom Smith strolled to the plate. The big lefty got into one and sent it soaring into the Boston sky, a deep fly ball, gone! Right up to the Monster Seats in deep left field, it was a pretty high lofted homer so those tend to be the easier to catch for fans. Well, the guy in the first row of the Monster seats in Fenway Park, was no regular fan.

The ball came right at him, bounced off of his hands, a little bobble, and straight back onto the field. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity lost. A chance for redemption is unlikely, and it didn’t get much more fan friendly than this homer.

Let’s break this down from the fans perspective, you see it flying at you, you get up, you get excited, and you secure the ball. THIS CAT, got too excited. He was antsy, on the edge of his seat, didn’t look it all the way in.

Act like you’ve been there before, guy. Use your hands! Don’t let it get into the body. Work with the ball not against it! Amateur.

The ending is arguably my favorite part: the guy looks up to the sky, goes palms up, and screams into the ether. Guy is feeling pure pain. I can’t imagine the pain the girl next to him feels, because that women has a GLOVE ON. Know your role! You brought the glove for a reason, USE IT!

An all around brutal moment in an otherwise great night in Boston!
